Of all the photographers on airliners.net, who do you think takes the best photos? I'm going to tally the results and post another thread in a week or so with the results. Please include a photo with your vote.

That's a tough question. There are so many excellent photogaphers, with beautiful composition, light, and picture quality, I'm not willing to say one is the "best."

However, if I have to pick a favorite, I'd have to say John Stewart. He's contributed many photos of rare and historic airlines, some of these photos are taken all the way back in the '60's. Many airlines that I grew up with--Mohawk, Allegheny, People Express--when I look them up, often the best (or only) shots are by John Stewart. He also has contributed a large record of first-round Deregulation knockouts.

When I recently went looking for a shot of Best Airlines, a small DC-9-10 operator that flew into my hometown ROC during the 1980's, I was not surprised to see that the single shot of a Best a/c in the whole database was by Stewart! And it was crisp and well-composed, with bright light and accurate color tinting.

BTW AirNikon gets a very honorable mention in this area.

There are way to many good photgraphers on this site and I think its impossible to pick the best one.

How do you chose? Andy Hunt has done well in this forum but as far as I am concerned these guys are the best in merit order;

Lawrence Feir ( who can beat him?)
Mark Garfinkel
Andrew Hunt
Jorgos Tsiambilakis ( is it the Northern light?)
Pix Air
Craig Murray

vgnatl747 - I look forward to the result of this thread. This is something I have always wanted to do. If I really had to choose someone other than Lawrence Feir I would choose Jorgos Tsiambialakis.

Thanks to everyone for the votes although I must say that its a surprise. Although I'm leaving out many great ones these photographers are the ones whose work particularly impresses me:

-Andrew Hunt who lately seems to dominate the first page of the best of 24-48 hour section...please give the rest of us a chance! Just kidding. Keep up the great work!  Smile
-Michael McLaughlin
-Carlos Borda
-Pixair
-Jan and Tommy Mogren

    ~ and many more...

I’ve been visiting Andrew’s site, Flightasia.com for a couple of years now, and have enjoyed his photos very much. I’d have to say that the composition of the pictures is important to him, and he likes to try different things. I really enjoy his remarks about each photo. His most recent work is (reach out and touch) wonderfully sharp and clear, that new camera must be a hum-dinger!

Thanks to all the photographers who have shared their love of airplanes and the airlines who fly them, so we can enjoy them too.

    Vasco Garcia

    Andrew Hunt

    Joe Pries
