Ghost Airplanes At RDU

Tue Jul 10, 2001 1:54 am

Hey guys, I flew JI up to PHL via RDU and noticed 2 unusual aircraft parked at the AMR gates. On the way up, it was a blue version-- a Boeing 737-200 in cobalt blue with an orange "boy scout" type emblem on the tail (I couldn't see any titles or the registration) and on my return trip yesterday (8 July) I saw an all orange 737-200 with a blue version of the emblem on the tail, but this time I caught some of the registration # as N###SW.

Any ideas?

Nate

I saw those at GSO and wondered the same thing.

They are Ryan International Cargo Planes.

Ghost aircraft are usually all-white with miniscule or non existent registrations; and which generally park off in remote areas of the airport. Not like these ones!

Well, we've always considered a "ghost" aircraft any aircraft with few or no tail or defined operator markings.

Hey,

yes those 2 planes are operated by Ryan International. They are not cargo though. I think they serve as charters for gamblers to/from atlantic city. They were both owned and operated by southwest before joining Ryan Int'l's fleet. I took this picture @ RDU last year:

I also have a picture of the blue one. I'll add that to the database soon.
