Beautiful Lockheed 1011s

Fri Jul 13, 2001 5:29 am

Ever notice how many L1011s were painted in beautiful
liveries?

Take a look at this BWIA one. I love the radial
look of that fruit:

Duke...

There are few liveries as classy as Royal Jordanian, and no aircraft modelled it as beautifully as the Tristar...

Here's the VIP L1011-500, in basic airline colors....it always impressed me that HM the late King Hussein was rated on and frequently flew left seat on this gorgeous ship.

(Anyone know if the new King, King Abdullah, is a Tristar pilot?)

A sight I loathe to see....so it's probably best that King Hussein never got to view this, though it's a different ship. But you can't stop progress...

I don't recall, but I do know His Royal Majesty King Abdullah is a very experienced pilot.

My favorite L-1011 livery is of LTU. It was an LTU L-1011 that I took on my first trip to Europe (LAX-DUS), and will always have a nostalgic place in my heart.

I think the BWIA livery features a shell, not a fruit. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You guys are both wrong; it's a steel drum (BWIA IS from Trinidad and Tobago, where steel drum music is popular).

I have not seen too many liveries I have not liked on this aircraft. Of course, I am partial to DLs, for that is where my love for aviation began.

L1011-500,

I flew LTU DUS/LAX as well, but I recall the flight
landed in SFO first for customs clearance and then
flew to LAX. The flight then returned LAX/DUS
non-stop. If it can fly DUS/SFO nonstop, I dont
think DUS/LAX is that much farther. I must say
that even though LTU's flights were Charters at the
time...the service was great

Can't find a photo of my favourite Tristar livery. Anyone remember Court Line (British charter airline of the 70s) The first TriStar I ever saw was at Luton and was painted in an amazing all pink colour scheme

Delta's is my favorite, sad they'll be gone. An any case, my favorite aircraft (next to concorde) is the L-1011.
I can't figure out what it is about the DC-10 that is so much more appealing to most.

Re BWIA - The L15s in its new livery is referred to in-house as the Great Grapefruit! Big grin Big grin Big grin

I was on the jumpseat of a BW L15 about a year ago when we were taxiing out at MIA - the ground controller came on and said (in an incredulous tone):

"Ah, West Indian ... are you going to be painting all your aircraft like that?"

BW Captain: "Affirmative!"

MIA Ground: "Er - wow!"

The original plan was to paint them a bronze/gold colour. It looked even worse than the current scheme! The interiors of the aircraft are also pretty awful - the side walls, ceilings, bins, toilets, galleys etc are all painted gunmetal grey; and the seats are upholdstered in a lime green (for J) and salmon pink (for Y) vinyl.

The new BWIA scheme with the steelband sported on the tail and forward fuselage is just great! The scheme looks very attractive and stands out in a crowd. The sight of their 2 flying TriStars parked next to one another at the new terminal at POS is a really spectacular sight indeed.

BY_757 beat me to the Court Line scheme; I agree, very nice. The "pink" scheme (no, it's *not* Pepto Bismol) to which several posters refer was PSA:
