AA Triple 7 Goes Transcon!

Fri Jul 13, 2001 12:35 pm

Starting within a week American Airlines flight number 999 will be a dily transcon flight from LAX to Miami.Just wanted to pass this along,,,,sorry for being to lazy to look up the exact flight time and date which I believe departs LA around 1pm.On another note the 777 flight from MIA to DFW at 740am has been replaced by a 757,also a 777 is on the MIA-GIG route.

Just a note that AA still operates a daily MIA-DFW 772 flight. The best part is that unlike UA (which uses 772 on a large number of domestic routes, including MIA-LAX and the very short MIA-IAD starting in October), all of AA's 772 are international configuration.

I also heard they will be pulling their Airbuses off transatlantic and replacing them with 777's. Supposedly, the A-300's will operate on domestic.

AA started the 777 on MIA-LAX-MIA on 2 July so this has already been operating for a while... I see this AA 777 every day.... It looks very nice. It's also nice to see that when the LAX-MIA flight leave, the 777 from LHR arrives LAX at about the same time. FYI UA only has 6 two class 777s out of 52 so most have the Intl configuration with First Suite. The777Man
Boeing 777s flown: UA, TG, KE, BA, CX, NH, JD, JL, CZ, SQ, EK, NG, CO, AF, SV, KU, DL, AA, MH, OZ, CA, MS, SU, LY, RG, PE, AZ, KL, VN, PK, EY, NZ, AM, BR, AC, DT, UU, OS, AI, 9W, KQ, QR, VA, JJ, ET, TK, PR, BG, T5, CI, MU and LX.. Further to fly.. LH 777

MAH4546- I think the big reason for the international configuration is that AA doesn't have designated international and domestic planes. That 777 after the LAX flight could go on a long haul flight.
Also don't the 777 DFW-MIA flights continue onto GIG and GRU? I thought was DFW-MIA-GRU and DFW-MIA-GIG, kinda like DFW-ORD-LHR. I thought it was a stop in MIA to drop off some pax and pick up pax, but it was the same plane under the same flight number.

Blink,

What about AA's A-300s, 762s and 763s? All these have a "domestic" and "international" configuration.

I heard that the A300's will be used on the Latin American routes. I did not hear anything about using them for domestic, except for where they fly from New York thru Miami to points south.

They might be operating this 777 in a certain rotation, with 2 or more international flights and then it goes back to MIA and to LAX. Delta has many flights like this with their 777s (ex: atl to mco) and with their md-11s (ex:atl to lax). After these domestic flights these planes are used to fly international Delta routes.

American has been operating A300s into Latin American countries for years now. They also fly them into the caribbean. I know for fact they fly them into POP, SDQ, SJU, SXM and Jamaica.

Cannedspam- the 763 domestic configuration is for Hawaii flights, a few years ago, I was on a 767 to ZRH and the flight before mine came in from San Francisco and the configuration was international.
Most of the 762's are used for transcons and designated A300's are used for domestic and international(I think)

Blink,

I know, I know...I was just pulling your chain. Smile But isn't Hawaii still part of the US? That would make it domestic only right since those planes don't do any international trips at all.  Smile

At AA,the 777s are only flown transcon for one of two reasons:

1) To satisfy a maintenance rotation based on the parameters set up by Maintenance and Engineering.

2) Aircraft positioning for international depatures. Additionally, the DFW-ORD flight is specifically a 777 so that it is in ORD in order to back up the international departures.

As of now the 777 on the LAX MIA route is only through August. The flight as of now continues to EZE, not GIG. GIG will not see the 777 till next year. GRU will get the 777 in September followed by SCL in October.
AA has ordered 15 new 763's to replace the A300's on trans atlantic as well as replace the TWA 763's, since they are powered by Pratt Whitney.
We will not see 777's on AA's domestic route structure to the same extent UA does for some time since all of AA's 777 crews are "international" crews, and they do not have plans to assign or begin a 777 domestic crew schedule.

I believe what is happening to AA's AB6 fleet is as follows:

1. Transatlantic operations by AB6's will be phased out, replaced by the 15 new 767-300ER's now on order.

2. The AB6's will be reassigned to US East Coast to Caribbean/northern South America routes, where the AB6's large cargo hold is very useful.
