AVENSA's Europe Service Suspended

Sat Jul 14, 2001 12:04 am

AVENSA halted flights to Europe. At least temporarily. The Venezuelan airline has entered a process of redefinition. Mr. W. Castro, AVENSA's president, travelled today to Miami in order to convince creditors that the company can be rescued. Meetings are also being held at Caracas, trying to convince the government that without any help, the airline will collapse. At the present financial situation, only time will tell if they can stay afloat!

They discontinued flights to Italy several months ago. Did they keep some other European connections in the meanwhile?

verything in hands of Chavez gov. is going to failure... how can you expect the investors to put money in those business with an almost comunist gov?
(as a venezuelan is a really big shame... I'm so sorry about it)

by the way... dont tell me about China, that's a rally big difference... Chavez wants to do in Venezuela something like North Korea or Cuba after the tourism boom.

I've noticed he visits some very controversial fugures like Castro and Sadam Hussein. He came here for the swearing in of the new Governess and some people started protesting .

Chepos: AVENSA is back on the routes to Europe today. That's what I've been told. It departed late from MIA due to severe thunderstorms. Airplane is now in CCS ready for service. The other DC-10 is being overhauled; and will be ready for service in a couple of weeks. As far as I know a tentative agreement has been reached for the company. Let's hope the best for it!

Hopefully a turnaround will soon happen in Avensa and the airline will be able to survive.
