ATA Fleet Renewal And New Paint Scheme

Sat Jul 14, 2001 7:34 pm

I read in Airliner World (August Edition) that ATA is undergoing fleet renewal (which I did know about) with the introduction of B738's, and 752's to replace the current 727's. What about the L1011's? Delta have retired theirs and so have many other airlines. Does anyone know if ATA plan to retire their aging Tristars? If so, what will there replacement be? Or Will the Tristars remain with ATA a little longer an be repainted into the new colour scheme?

Any help much appriciated!

Djmatthews-

I asked the same question to the a few flight engineers who were working on an L-1011 at SFB where I work on the ground crew. They said most likely 767-400s or maybe even 777-200s. About that new paint job, my friends who works with me said it looks like a kindergartener drew that design on the tail.

The 1011's are being retired and will be partially replaced with the 757-300. The 500's will stay in the fleet the longest as they operate a great deal of ATA's Military flying.

I do not think any of the L1011's will get the new paint job.

Had the rare treat of seeing an ATA 738 departing PHX the other morning. At least I assume it was ATA. Don't know of any other 737's with winglets that could have been here...

They Aren't Flying To Houston, So...

I notice they are getting rid of the purple scheme with the palm trees in favor of a black and orange scheme. On Halloween, those planes should be quite a sight...

3 L-1011's have been retired and no more are scheduled for some time (looking at log Books). The 500's will be around for a long while to come and the 1/100's will be around for a few years still. The 753 will mainly be used in high yield domestic rte's mainly supplementing the 752's not really replacing the Tristar 1/100's but supplementing them also when a charter doenst justify that much capacity. According to charts a couple of the 1/100's in the old old scheme will recieve the new scheme.
