Qantas 747 Grounded

Sun Jul 15, 2001 12:39 pm

A Qantas 747 left hundreds of travellers grounded in Rome last night 14/7/01 as it suffered hydraulic leaks. The aircraft was to operate the QF16 to Bangkok then to Sydney when the pilots found major hydraulic leaks. They informed the passengers there was an airconditioning problem. Passengers waited at the airport for 2 hours before Qantas made arrangements to get the passengers to hotels for the night. Repairs to the aircraft were made overnight.

Let's just hope it isnt VH-EBW in Rome again. I hope someone will know which aircraft it was exactly.

If it is the same 743 again, may be it is time for Qantas to get rid of it. The 743 in Qantas fleet is getting old.

SQ777,

They entered service in 1985. If not, it's 1983, I can't remember exactly but they sure are YOUNGER than B727-200's, etc. which the US majors still fly...

I thought QF16 is operated by 743 and apparently its Nalanji Dreaming VH-EBU.

Hey Ttt I don't see how it was Nalanji dreaming as I read in another of your posts that it departed Singapore on Sat 14th at 0030, so how did it get to Rome on the same day?
But yes it would have been a 743. There was a QF743 in Auckland today don't know the rego though.

V Jet,

Qantas does not typically operate the 200 series to Rome...there were major disruptions to services last Friday due to fog in Sydney....so, unless that had something to do with it, I would be extremely surprised if it was a 200...could be wrong, of course.

I can't say which aircraft it was, however it has now arrived in Sydney (originally planned to Melbourne). It arrived at 1955 last night.
