The 737-900, The Final 737 Produced?

Mon Jul 16, 2001 3:53 pm

Once in a while I hear about the 737X or the 737-1000 but does anyone know Boeing's plans yet?

Is there a plan for a new 737 or will the -900 mark the end of the most popular family of jetliners to date? I heard from a captain of the 900 series that the current airframe cannot be stretched any longer than it currently is because of tailscrapes on takeoff and landing.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's not likely that the 737 will die. It may get a new number, but it will continue to be a 737 family aircrafit.

As long as Southwest buys the 737, Boeing will make them.

I'm surprised that the -900 doesn't tail scrape on rotation.
Seriously though, Hypermike hit the nail right on the head. The -900 monkier is ONLY a number. But as long as there is still a market for this airplane, it will continue to be made. I'm sure that Boeing will come up with some kind of series number should they introduce a new model.

I'm also curious to see what name Boeing would give to future 737s.
