Air NZ Sells B767-200's

Wed Jul 18, 2001 4:07 pm

I read in Justplanes news that Air NZ will sell or has sold its remaining 3 B767-200's to GECAS and will lease them back after 7 years. The aircraft are ZK-NBA, NBB and NBC.

It does not say when the aircraft will leave the fleet though.

Its sad to see these aircraft go but they are the oldest aircraft in the fleet and are used on flights to Australia only. I wonder what they will be replaced with more 763's? A new leased 763 is due this year sometime.

Scott,

It says in Just Planes, that Air New Zealand sold the 762s and leased them back for 7 years. I guess that this means you´ll see the 762s until 2008 in the ANZ fleet.  Nuts

Cheers

I read that they were due to leave the fleet in 2003.

I just checked Air NZ' site. The 767s are 14,3 years old. They are not that old, but I suppose they want to keep an extremely young fleet...

Yeah sorry guys I misread but I don't think Air NZ will operate them until 2008. I agree with Kiwi dave that they should be gone by the end of 2003. Considering ZK-NBJ just has just been sold I guess maybe other carriers may lease the other 3 off GECAS, but then the article didn't state that. We will just have to wait and see I guess.

I believe the NZ 762 sale is part of the same deal whereby GECAS has bought the AN 762s. They will be replaced on a one-for-one basis for 763s leased from GECAS.

As the NZ 762s are younger and have far less cycles due to the routes they have been flown on, the NZ 762s will stay until after all the AN 762s have been replaced.

GECAS have bought the 762s for freighter conversion. Their end user customer is rumoured to be Airborne Express which already has a large fleet of PW powered converted 762s.
