Wed Jul 18, 2001 4:14 pm

SAS is looking into it´s aircraft maintenance as the airline has experienced four emergency landing within two weeks. The latest incident occured yesterday (tuesday July 17) as an aircraft from Copenhagen to Oslo was forced to return to Copenhagen with smoke in the cabin.

The other three emergency landings took place on July 5 (engine failure on a Fokker F50), July 6 (overheated engine on a MD-87) and July 13 (elevator problems on B767-300 in Singapore).

The 767 problem was located in the Elevator Feel Mechanism. No fault was found in the original unit, but a replacement on loan from Delta was fitted and the plane ferried to CPH.
The latest return was caused by a faulty cabin light fitting which was replaced and the plane is back in service. It was a flight from Oslo to Stockholm, not CPH-OSL.
