LOL. I don't know where that came from...

I'm a little confused, they only operate 737's so how can they go all Boeing when they already are ????

I guess I expected people to read the contents of the post, not just the topic. It was meant as a joke. A stab at humor. Nothing more.

Looks like it failed terribly.  Smile

I read the topic and the post...........I still don't get it or see the joke in it...........it certainly did fail miserably if this was supposed to be funny or something.........

Humor verry much in the vein of that classic newspaper parody, The Onion.

I thought it was funny.

Southwest is going to sell the secret G-IV that ole' Herb used to jet around in!

In accordance with fleet compatibility, they're gonna buy him a BBJ, which'll introduce the NEW wingletted Boeing 737s.

On routes no Airliners.net members ever fly on, like Boise-Portland or Islip-Baltimore, they secretly use Tupolev 134s and Dassault Mercures without telling anyone (it shows as 737 on the timetables and the safety cards). They will replace this small fleet with 737ng's as well in the next few years.

WN will be the launch customer of the 737-1100, designed as an ideal replacement for the 737-700. The 737-1100 is an important member of the Boeing 737 NNG family of aircraft, featuring extended wings and vertical stabilizers.

Speaking of Southwest, anyone see this? I'm sure they have the cash to buy the new 737s, but it's kind of surprising that their profits are down.

7/19 Reuters - Southwest Airlines profits fall 8 percent

"Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV - news), the No. 7 U.S. carrier, said on
Thursday that its second-quarter profits fell about 8 percent but it
remained profitable amid turbulent industry conditions.Southwest, known for
its inexpensive fares, said it stayed in the black thanks to a ``recession
resistant'' low-fare business strategy. The company said it expects lower
earnings again in the third quarter but it still sees itself ``solidly
profitable."

Traytable, the whole industry has been down, the fact that they earned a profit when so many other carriers didn't - AA, UA, US, NW - is a testament to their business strategy.

For those of you who think Southwest has only flown 737's throughout it's 30 year history, think again. For many years in the late 1970's and early 1980's, they flew 727's. These flew on many routes, including their flights to Denver Stapleton (Anybody remember Southwest in the Mile High City?).

I like that old livery better than their current or new ones.

At the bottom of this page it has what a Southwest A380 would look like, with some other airlines liveries.

MEA-707: liked it!

This thread reminds me of the classical scholar who spent most of his career doing research for his great paper proving that The Iliad and The Odyssey were not actually written by Homer, but by another Greek with the same name.

C'mon, Southwest mess with success? Are you nuts?

My first Southwest flight was on a 727. It was on 8/1/84 from HOU to MSY. The aircraft was N564PE, a B727-227. Even though it had a PeoplExpress registration, it had a Southwest interior. It was a very nice flight.
