DC 8

Thu Jul 19, 2001 9:10 pm

Back in the 50's and 60's the DC-8 and the B707 was in great competition. These to great airplanes was the start for massive pax jet-transportation. (Haven't forgot the Comet, TU104 and Caravelle)

The B707 won with arround 1100 against 556.

But now many DC-8 60 serie have been converted to the 70 series. And according to a book from 1999, there was still arround 100 B707/B720 in service in 1998, but arround 250 DC-8, mainly as freighters.

The DC-8's seems to last longer (as a old Volkswagon)

Who is/where the better aircraft ?

Anybody out in the forum who has flown on both the B707 and DC-8. (I have only flown B720B)

Comments please

I love DC8. Cargolion a Carrier from Luxemburg searches F/O's for their fleet. Two month I'll have my ATPL, I'm sure they give a right seat in a Cockpit  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I was on the DC-8 and B-707 many times in the late 60's and early 70's. Liked the DC-8 much better, always felt safer for some reason. Also, the Convair 880 was a well built craft.
