Posing In The Engine.

Sat Jul 21, 2001 1:39 am

Is it illegal to pose for pictures while sitting in the engine intake. I was sitting in the intake of a Southwest 737-7H4 (N712SW) so the pilot could take my picture. What would the F.A.A. have done if they had caught the pilot taking my picture. Has anyone else done this before. I know Craig Murray has, I have seen his pic on A.Net, but that was in austrailia.

Any comments?

There's no FAR that I'm even remotely aware of that prohibits what you described. Worst case (if some FAA guy/gal was prowling on the ramp) would be that they could try and nail you for some sort of security infraction, assuming you weren't an employee with a badge that allowed access to the AOA (aircraft operations area).

Superfly, That joke can be funny. But..... I WOULD NEVER ASK HER TO POSE NAKED, I WOULD NEVER MAKE SURE SHE IS NAKED... UNLESS SHE WANTED TO BE NAKED, I WOULD NOT TAKE PART IN NUDE PHOTOGRAPHY. I LIKE HER BETTER WITH CLOTHES ON (WE AINT MARRIED YET.  Wink/being sarcastic)

You know, I think I will try that soon. The problem is her mom... Her mom is VERY PROTECTIVE over her. So are there any tips on how I can get her mom to trust me so I can take her out to the airfield?

What airport would let a young beautiful babe pose nude in an aircrfat engine?  Big grin
You need to come over to the Non-Aviation forums if your want Superfly's expert advise on the ladies.  Smile

To build up that sort of trust with the mother, just tell her you are going to show her daughter how thrust works.  Big grin
Without thrust, airplanes couldn't fly, right?  Smile

Last month in the Southwest Spirit Magazine there was a full page ad touting Southwest's 30th anniversary. About 15-20 of the original employees still working were standing/sitting on the wing of a Southwest 737, including Herb, Colleen and Rollin King. If they can do that, I guess you can have your picture taken in the engine.

The mother in law thing only works with 737's

That is what i meant. 737s. But why does it work only on 737s. What if we dont have a 737 available and all we have is a 727 and she is one huge bulk of a mother in law. THEN what do we do.

I believe Craig Murray's engine-intake picture was created using photoshop - I think I remember reading his comments on that particular photo about how he created it.

I have pics of myself standing in the intake of a Rolls Royce Trent 892. No problems, and I've lived to tell about it.

The comments from Craig Murray's EK photo:

A6-EMK Showing you the comparison between human (me!) and RR Trent engine as fitted to this Boeing 777-200. A good way for those of you that have never been able to stand next to an engine and fully appreciate just how big they really are. Yes, that is a me standing in the engine, the marvels of modern technology made this shot possible!

It's a bit ambiguous - I always took the last sentence to mean that the shot was created using photoshop or something else, but I guess he could be referring to the engine as the marvel.. oh well, doesn't matter much anyway

Hmm, hard to say.

There appears to be some "fuzz" around his right hand, and the shadow on his left foot looks like it's going the wrong way.

of course it OK to do. Mechanics need to hop into the inlet sometimes to inspect parts especially on the biggers planes like 777. Speaking of which, I've always wanted to have some snap a pic of me standing in the inlet of a GE90 777 engine. That would be a cool pic.

RE the picture of Craig

I dont think its a fake. Why would he go and fake such a picture? Craig is a 6 footer.. its just to demonstrate the largeness of the Trent engine.

I've had my photo taken sitting on the front of the 733 many times! Theres enough room on the ledge to sit reasonably comfortably too!

And, yes, it was the Captain who took the shot, and a very good photographer she is too!

My Goal is to get my Girlfriend and me in the engine inlet of any plane, and get our picture taken. Screw the Picture Studio in Walmart, or Target. Why not have a real man's/woman's love scene  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Trust me that is really Craig standing in that engine, i think the caption (which can be easily mis-enterpreted) meant as a kind of joke, saying thanks to the ground staff etc

Cheers

Hey Justin, Whats up...

Yeah, The Capt. took me down and let me get pics all over the aircraft. That is one reason I like WN.

To all of you: It was the #1 engine.

Now, How do I get my girlfriends mom to trust me, so I can take her and get her pic taken in the inlet with me?

any advice people?  Insane

If anyone ever gets a engine intake shot of themselves, please post in on airliners.net. My scanner sucks, so I can't do mine. I sure will try though.
