What Was Westerns Fleet In The End

I would like to know what types of aircraft Western Airlines was flying Right before they were bought out and how many they had. Also Republic.

When Western was bought by Delta in 1987, their fleet consisted of 727-200s, 737s (200s and 300s), and DC-10s. Delta kept all but the DC-10s, since they already operated L1011s.

Republic's fleet when merged into Northwest consisted of 727-200s, DC-9s, MD-80s, and 757s. Shortly after the merger, RC's 757s were sold to America West because they had different engines than their NW counterparts. NW also parked the MD-80s in the desert a year or two ago. Other than that, Northwest operates most of the old RC fleet today.

In 1987 when Western was bought out their fleet consisted of 727s,737s, and DC-10s. Republics fleet consisted of DC-9s, MD-80s, 727s, and 757s. I do not know how many of each they had or how many they had all together though.

Delta kept all but the DC-10s (operated by Western at the time it was acquired by DL)

Delta continued to operate some of the DC-10-10s it inherited from Western for about 18 months. Some, including N915WA, were even repainted in the full Delta livery; I had the good fortune of seeing one "up close" at the gate in SLC in Nov. 1987, just after the merger. It was being prepared for a SLC-SAN-HNL flight.

The ex-WA D10s were utilized by DL primarily on routes to Hawaii until they could be replaced by L10s. D10 routes in Delta's Dec. 15, 1987 timetable included ATL-LAX-HNL; ATL-DFW-LAX-OGG; ANC-HNL; SFO-HNL and SLC-SAN-HNL.
