For Anyone Who Has Flown On TWA Since The Buyout..

Mon Jul 23, 2001 2:58 am

Hi,

I was talking with Imkeww and DeltaSFO at the airport the other day about TWA merging into American. Now that they are bought, when the cabin crews are making announcments how do they identify their airline?

Do they say...
1) American Airlines flt...
2) American Airlines flight___operated by TWA
3) TWA flight

or I heard that they are now TWA Airlines. So my basic question is how do they identify them selves on board the airplane?

Just Curious

dont know

but i dont think they would be redundant like that calling themselves

Trans world airlines airlines.

Actually I really dont know. With the regionals they give them a different or similar name to the buyers airline. If that sounds strange, United express (operated by mesaba).

But a major buys a smaller in that case.

a major and a major. since they both own there own planes I dont think that they would call them american operated by twa because american is also being operated by american

They announce it as "TWA flight xxx operated by TWA, LLC - a subsidiary of AMR Corporation".

Thats a stupid way to do flight anouncements. Why wouldnt AA be "American Flight xxx operated by American Airlines a subsidary of AMR."

Or HP Flight xxx operated by America West Airlines a subsidiary of America West Holdings Inc.

And on and on

>>They announce it as "TWA flight xxx operated by TWA, LLC - a subsidiary of AMR Corporation".<<

I've been on over 40 flight segments all over the country since the takeover was official, and not once have they announced it like this. They continue to announce it simply as "TWA flight xxx." During announcements regarding frequent flier miles, they do say something to the effect that American Airlines is now their parent company, and passengers can choose to earn Aadvantage miles or Aviators miles, and that the Aviators program will end November 30th, blah blah blah. Otherwise, everything is still the same.

Yeah, it's still "TWA Flight 410" or "TWA Flight 163" but usually the cabin crew will make note of the fact that it the flight is operated by TWA Airlines LLC which is now owned by American Airlines. It's more for PR than anything though.

No They Don't.

I was on four TWA flights a couple of weeks ago (not quite two weeks) and no they don't. They mention nothing having to do with American at all, quite literally.

"TWA welcomes you aboard flight 579, with service from St Louis to Dallas..."

That's what they said.

I just returned on Saturday after taking 5 flights on TWA (SGF-STL-SJU, SDQ-JFK-STL-SGF) The only thing I specifically heard heard about American Airlines was during the boarding process, offering preboarding to AA Platinum and Gold, otherwise they were all just typical TWA flights. The inflight magazine is now American Way however.

I just flew them this morning. Flight 297 from LGA to STL, and flight 591 from STL to MSP. No mention of American whatsoever.

I imagine it's like most announcements and it's a bit of a crap shoot. Sometimes you get the captain and the flight crew that is all about giving you all kinds of information and sometimes you only get the bare minimum. So I guess the answer to your question is sometimes yes and sometimes no

my last TWA flight, they said, "Welcome aboard TWA flight one, NOW with serivce to Honolulu, Hawaii, please sit down and stow your carry-ons so that we can have a on-time departure this morning."

like TWA flight 1 was going to Montana before the sudden change in flight plan.

The F/A probably made a slip because he/she is used to saying, "Welcome to TWA flight xxx, now continuing to xxx" as many flights originate at the end of a spoke, stop in St. Louis, and continue to another end of a spoke. Flight 1 isn't one of these, however (Flight 3 is for example, originating at JFK, stopping in STL, and continuing on to Maui).

Yeah, maybe they'll just start calling it "The Airline" and it's name will be written as a symbol (undoubtedly something that looks like an eagle)...
