New TWA Scheme?

Wed Jul 25, 2001 3:04 am

Hey has anyone seen those tacky new TWA/American planes?? Why have they done that If Twa has been takien over by American? What exactly is going on? I live in STL the main hub of TWA and yet, you can still go to TWA.com and purchase tickets under TWA. What's up?

Afaik, TWA keeps existing until 31Dec 2001. So they still sell their own tickets, have their own homepage and, of course, have their own aircraft.

This *very* tacky livery has just been created in order to re-paint the aircraft into full AA-colours when TWA ceases to exist. Or is it American's way to show everybody "Okay, it's still TWA. But we are coming!"

Will STL become an AA-hub after the takeover? Or will AA ferry all aircraft to DFW on New Year's Eve???

Save TWA! (And save BA's World Images, too!)

Once that plane was rolled out in TWA-AA livery, the plug was pulled.

That is the most horrible scheme I've see since the Reno/AA palne came out. Could they have atlest kept the TWA Golden Globe? Good schemes/logos like TWA's are hard to come by now adays.

Guys, STL and most of the associated TWA equipment won't be going anywhere. AA needs the valuable STL hub operation that TWA runs. Granted, some TWA equipment will be replaced (767s soon, 757s eventually, D93s for 717s one a month now), but TWA will continue operating for as long as AA can get away with it. The airline as it stands now has seat mile costs that are approximately 10% less than AA's.

The Aviators program ends November 30, and TWA employees move to AA green book wages on January 01, 2002 but that's it. TWA LLC will be around until every aspect of the operation can be AAmericanized, and one can bet that Carty will take as much time doing it as possible given the cost advantage that TWA has. Note that the AA unions will be breathing down Carty's throat to get the operations combined ASAP however.

By the way, for TWA being on life support... not anymore. To say that they are on life support would imply that AA is on life support, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Trans World Airlines Inc. and TWA LLC managed about a 14 million dollar operating loss for the quarter ending June 30 as well... compare that to some of its competitors (including its parent company which lost approximately 5 times that amount).

I think it is ugly also, and AA could have atleast corporated the double globe into their livery(the double globe rocks). The scheme was to let people know that it is still TWA, but at the same time, they are saying AA is here and TWA is part of us. On one of the cheatlines, they put "An American Airlines Company". i wish that AA would have kept TWA the way it is(with MRTC and AAdvantage of course) but operated TWA as a totally different airline and kept the scheme the way it was.
I too will miss TWA  Crying

The TWA/AA plane was visiting SJU for the first time today. By the way TWA was a great airline, In my opinion the best US airline.

Everything I've read says American is VERY MUCH looking forward to using STL as a "relief valve" for ORD. STL is in a brilliant location for a hub.

The 717 seems like an awesome little jetliner, with fantastic engines. I hope AA gives it a second look anyway.

And YES! ...i was leery at first, then became a fan of World Images as a casual observer at DFW...now I miss them!

Hey guys i would have to agree with most of you. AA does actually need a new scheme since most of the ATC guys here at DFW complain how the 'Silver Birds' seem to blind them in the Texas sun. The SWA guys don't really like it in the fact that it seems to blind them when they are turing onto finals for 13L and 13R. But yeah it is kinda funky. Also i would like to know if AA is going to be acepting more 717 and if they are going to be putting them into full AA colors(talking about a mini MD80). And what are they going to replace the TWA 767's with? Oh well like Heavymetal said it is kinda sad not to see the White, The Red and the Blue Belly.

Now wait a minute, every time I go to DFW, Chelsea Rose is sitting there in all her glory... the tails haven't left yet...

Additionally, yes the TWA 717 is a fantastic airplane. I found nothing about it that I didn't like. Except the smoke out of the air vents...

And also, AA is using STL as a relief valve not only for ORD, but also DFW.

I was flying TWA from Dallas thru STL to Washington DC two weeks ago, and there is certainly room for expansion there. I should say it this way- many of the TWA gates aren't being used, and clearly haven't been used in a while. One portion of the C terminal (I think) used to be for international arrivals, clearly, due to the hallway you would walk down to get to customs. But that airport is huge, and TWA is not using all of their own gates... sad to see them reduced to this. It was my first TWA flight. I am planning on going back to Washington this Christmas, maybe I can still take TWA if this about the DEC31 thing is true!

To clear things up a bit regarding TWA, they are now a wholly owned subsidiary of AA. A lot of changes will happen between now and Dec 31, but American plans on keeping the TWA name for at least another two years. Plus the TWA globe won't disappear overnight. AA is going to be keeping at least 100 of TWA's aircraft, which will take a long time to paint. Even if they did 1 aircraft per week , it would take a couple of years to comple the enitre fleet.

Hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion.

I know that now since AA has all of TWA's rights to say BOM, HKG and points in the mideast they even inhereted rights to Bagdad Iraq!!! But even thought AA will not fly there anytime soon. I do expect that AA will reserect a good portion of these right and try to initiate a round the globe service like what UAL is doing. This is all the more reson that AA should incorporate the double globe logo into the AA. I hope Don Carty will keep it. It would be a damn shame to see it fade away.
