DL? NRT-JFK

Thu Jul 26, 2001 8:55 am

Just curious if anyone knows how Delta is performing on this route. IT seems that they would struggle a bit to compete with NW, UA, ANA, JAL and CO when those routes are being flown with 747 or 777 versus MD 11. That is of course unless they can generate alot of connecting traffic Of course I am still bitter about PDX losing this route!! LOL

Any comments would be appreciated

It looks like they are doing okay on the route. There are still 30-50 seats left on the flight leaving JFK tomorrow in coach and about 15 BizElite seats left. Not exactly the most profitable route i'm sure.

I'm sure Delta does reasonably well on the route, as many corporations in the NY area will use Delta as a
preferred carrier, given its many international and its
domestic routes out of JFK, even with declining or
sluggish demand for premium seats. However, DL is
a johnny come lately in the NYC-Japan market, with
UA, JL, NW, and even ANA established players and
DL operates its route without the benefit of a true
hub at JFK, the way CO does at Newark.

I hope Delta succeeds though. I flew United to NRT
from JFK on the 747-400 a few years ago in Biz and
the service was so-so. BusinessElite to Asia sounds
a lot more appealing than UnitedBusiness or NW's
WorldBusiness Class.

I can second that. I used to be a very frequent flier with DL on their PDX-BKK route (while it existed) and their service was just great!!
