Jumpseat On Emirates - Any Ideas?

Fri Jul 27, 2001 3:34 am

Hi everybody
i am glad that i finally found a place to read about aviation news after the usenet groups are not so great  Big grin
Now my question, i'll be flying home to SIN from FRA via DXB and CMB next week on Emirates. Is there any chance (or has anyone experience with EK) that i could visit the flightdeck and maybe get a jumpseat place? (there will be a brief stop in CMB with a 777)
Any hints or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Thanxs guys!

Write the FC a letter and give it to the one of the flight attendants when you board, requesting a jump seat. If you know a name mention it!

A flightdeck visit will be possible.

Emirates operates a strict no jumpseat policy.

I am afraid the pre-flight letter to the flight attendant drill won't work, i've tried something similar and doesn't work.

I have managed to jumpseat on Emirates, and it was an awesome experience. If you want to learn more, send me an email.

Emirates777,

You information is a little confusing. You say Yes but you say NO ??????

For the record I asked for a jumpseat and got it. This was on a A310 from Manila to Hong Kong (Kai Tak). My first ever jumpseat landing.

I showed the pilots my aviation pics from Kai Tak and they had no problem with me staying in the cockpit.

If i read your message correctly (A310 MNL-HKG), your jumpseat may have been about 2-3 years ago ?

Emirates have really tightened up on jumpseats for pax. The chances of getting a jumpseat, by asking as you get onboard are probably very slim now on EK. In the past the captain could allow/refuse jumpseats at his discretion. Now this needs to be authorised by fleet managers.

You can probably do it, but its a lot more hassle now. I managed to get a jumpseat due to my internal contacts. I am sure it is still possible, but it has to be arranged in advance with a valid reason.

Going into Colombo, will be very interesting, after all what has happened. Are on transit there or are you going to stay there for a few days? Please give us a report of Colombo Airport and the passenger load, as it will be interesting to see how bad this incident has affected travel to Sri Lanka, as I am keen on visiting there sometime in December 01.

Much Appreciated

Thank you everyone for the messages. Since there is not much to lose anyway, i will give it a try and since i will be flying on 4 different EK planes in the next few weeks, maybe i can make it once  Smile
Of course i will report anything i can find out about the situation in Colombo but i am afraid, since i will be going home, CNB was not my priority when i booked....I'll be on EK076 arriving there at 9:45 am local and leaving 65 minutes later. But it will be daylight and i hope to be able to take some pictures even when i can't manage to get a jumpseat...i will keep you posted, that's for sure.
Thank you again
