CX With A340 At Ams?

Fri Jul 27, 2001 4:41 pm

I heard about CX planning to fly the A340 to AMS soon.
Or maybe they already started ?

Can someone confirm or tell me I'm crazy.... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I was at AMS on 13 July and I saw the CX A340 (B-HXH). I was very suprised to see it as they usually fly with the 747. I guess this means they have already started.

was there as well. Nice surprise to see 2 A340s on a single day (Kuwait is normally the only one until now).
I wish I were flying

Cathay operates the A340 instead of the 744 to AMS for a couple of weeks now, i don't know if this is due to the pilot-strikes or they just changed the aircraft type.
Also they used to fly HKG-AMS-MAN-AMS-HKG, but now they fly only HKG-AMS-HKG ( maybe also due to pilot-strikes ), arriving at 6:30 and leaving at 14:25 dutch time.

Cathay Pacific stated that for the time being the Hong Hong - Amsterdam route is being operated by Airbus A340 aircraft.
Starting the winterseason Cathay is likely to operate the A340 on this route all the time.

The Amsterdam-Manchester leg is not operated anymore by CX.

Nice summer here in AMS, with Singapore starting to operate the B777 to AMS. And Korean Air is back with passenger B747-400 flights.

best wishes

Wow, very detailed info.

hey, do you guys think that it would be better if CX can share code wz some airlines for the flight (or leg) from HKG-MAN (AMS-MAN) ? I personally think it would be a good idea.

I believe that the CX hierarchy are investigating the possibilities of non-stop MAN-HKG services with A340s. It would certainly improve this route's performance as it was a one-stop service via either AMS or CDG. Try getting people on to that when they operate double daily non-stop from LHR!

Anyway, it can be no coincidence that airlines that begin non-stop long-haul from MAN have no apparent trouble filling planes  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
