JAL Or Ana?

Sat Jul 28, 2001 3:24 am

I'm traveling to Tokyo (from NY) soon, and was wondering which was better (comfort, food, schedule, PTV's) to fly, Japan Air or All Nippon Air? Do any serve sushi? Any other good airliners to Japan?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've only flown on ANA domestically and I've never flown JAL. However, the majority of my friends are Japanese and a few are travel agents, and most say there isn't much difference between the two. From what I've gathered, the food is similar, but the legroom in ANA coach is supposedly a little better than JAL. Basically, you might just want to make your choice based on price, schedule, or preferred aircraft type.

Actually....I would suggest Continental.

Both have PTVs in every seat. I'm not too certain about non-744 JAL aircrafts though.

I read in a Japanese news report that ANA now has 34" (up from 31") in coach. Dont think ANA serves sushi in any class - not in coach; in business and first you get something more sophisticated than sushi.

One of the few reasons you might want to fly ANA over JAL is the Super Style features in business and first:

Other airlines to Japan: there's always SQ and NW, and probably more.

In case you're flying business, JAL will begin increasing seat pitch in business in december, so that the seats recline to 150 degrees plus. This is to prepare for fully flat seats coming next year.  Smile
