AA's Ex-Reno Air Aircraft

What is AA planning to do with the ex-QQ aircraft? I fly them fairly regularly and I was wondering if they're staying in the fleet. If not, when are they gone and what's the replacement? Additionally, does American still operate ex-QQ MD-90's? Did American originally have MD-90's or were they all acquired from QQ? Thanks.

American did not originally operated any MD-90s on their own. The five ships from Reno Air are now parked...four in OKC & the fifth is in either Mohave or Victorville. The MD-87s from Reno are phased out as well, I believe. The MD-82/83 may still be flying with AA. Hope this helps. Regards.

Rumor has it that the ex-Reno Air MD-87s will be going over to Vanguard sometime this fall, and I would be surprised if the MD-90s headed to either Vanguard or Spirit. AA parked many of the ex-Reno Air planes until the leases were up, since most of QQ's fleet was leased.

Some of the MD87's are still flying. I saw N755RA at SJC last Tuesday. Last I heard all of the ex-QQ planes are scheduled to be out of the fleet by next January. AA is replacing these planes on ex-Reno routes with B737-800's, B757's, and standard AA MD80's.

I think what's happening right now is that the ex Reno aircrafts are being retired or sold to some other companies like you say, and they are being replaced on the West Coast with standard AA MD-80's. American is now operating it's own MD-80's out of its two hubs on the West Coast, LAX and SJC. Since a number of Super 80's are being transfered to the West Coast hubs, you will see more 757's and 737-800's on the rest of the domestic network where there used to be a lot of MD-80's. For example, DFW-LGA and ORD-LGA are no longer "all MD-80". DFW-LGA has a few 757's and ORD-LGA has a few 737-800's, those are just two examples among many that we can think of. DFW-ORD is still "all MD-80" with the exeption of one 777. The MD-80 is out of production, but the 757 and NG737's are not.
