Airlines That Are Disappearing.

Tue Jul 31, 2001 10:12 am

What airlines do you think are disappearing out there?

This is for sure, Middle East Airlines (MEA). Used to be one of the top airlines in the Middle East.....now only operates 9 aircraft, and is in financial trouble.

Vietnam Airlines hasn't been doing too well lately.

Regards.

Well, Pan Am and TWA are gone, I think US Airways and United will be the next to go after the smaller carriers who will just vanish like they never existed...

In my opinion Venezuela's Avensa is not in a very good shape and in my opinion if they don't get their act together they will soon be out the door.
Aerolineas Argentinas also has numerous problems .

Which small carriers are you referring to? The low cost pop-ups are causing damage to a lot of the big-guys, and when one falls it seems three arise to take its place.

Pakistan International
Air India
Air Lanka (possibly)
Gulf Air (if they lose out to Emirates)
Shaheen Air International of Pakistan
Bhoja Air of Pakistan
Safe Air of Pakistan
some Nepal's domestic airlines since too many are serving same routes.
Phillipines Airlines (depending on financial crisis)
Garuda Indonesia (if political imbalance continues)

Various African and small North American carriers are in trouble as well.

I wonder how long Lauda Air might still exist. One of their 777s is up for sale already.
Vietnam Airlines is in trouble. We´ll most likely never see the 777s they ordered. They would look nice though.
LTU seems to be deep in the red. I would miss their distinctive red-orange aircraft.
Some Chinese carriers might disappear. I heard somewhere China wants to reduce the number of airlines.
Dept-ridden state carriers like Aerolineas Argentinas will probably be saved.

Gulf air are sliding into no-whereville, just passing Garuda Indonesia and PIA.

Lauda Air are part of the austrian airlines group-it would be complete folly to shut down the best performing part of the airline group, one that beats austrian airlines and tryolen.

Lauda air has one a lot of awards-it may have one plane for sale but i cant see it being shut down.
It is amazing what can be accomplised when nobody takes the credit

Phillipine Airlines is actually improving in its economics and little by little they are coming out of the problems they currently have.
Another fading carriers is Argentina's Lapa.
