Do you think Russia might actually make money if their only two An-225's were converted to commercial use?

A supergiant like that "could" compete with all of the A380/B744/B773.

I don't think 'Russia' will make any money on the AN-225. Why? Antonov is a UKRAINIAN company.

I doubt it. The aircraft is not that fast and probably less profitable as it needs higher load factors (after all you are using 6 engines).
And there is the fact that there are not that much airlines interested in Russian equipment. In russia they couldn't possibly fill the An-225 with passengers.
Also the fleet commonality (all airbus/all boeing) makes it more difficult for the An-225.

The Antonov 225 is a cargo aircraft and not designed for passenger transport. So competing with A380, B777 of whatever pax aircraft is not up for discussion

The An-225 will be brought into service by Antonov Design Bureau. It's a perfect freighter for outsize cargo. As there is a growing market for outsize cargo (cf. alliance between Volga Dnepr, operating An-124-100, and Atlas), i think it has a chance.

There is only one An-225. Another one was never finished, it is still in Antonov's prototype facility outside of Kiev. I'm happy to see it fly again, but I think Antonov will have a difficult time finding customers who need to transport 250 tons of cargo at once. I hope I'm wrong, though.

1stspoter- An-225 IS still up for discussion as to be a passenger plane...
i just dont think there is a market for a plane that big in that part of the world.. and it will be expensive to run... and who would buy it?

Who IS discussing it as a possible passenger plane???
Would they be able to fit two floors of seats in it? I'm not sure about that, but they'd have to if they wanted it to compete with the 380! Also, I think 6 engines is a big no-no...
Next flight.... who knows.

It CAN carry up to 100 pax in the upper deck already. I'm not sure what the cabin up there is like, but probably like a 737/A320.

If it can carry pax (it probably can, arrangements for specialists concerning the cargo for example) the seating is probably similar to that on the passengerdeck of a C-5 Galaxy.
Mind that the aircraft was developed for military use and for carrying spacecraft from the factory and landing sites to the launchsites. In Soviet times this was a largely military undertaking (despite being a civillian agency).

Yes there is a market for AN 225. It is all what the AN124 cannot carry. The advantage? It can carry very heavy equipment inside, or outsized cargo outside (on the top)
Its main competitor is not the A380 F, ordered by Fedex or Emirates as a pure freighter. This aircraft is designed to carry heavy payloads in containers or pallets, not to carry outsized cargo.(this is due to the 2 main deck configuration, and the doors on the side)
Its main competitor on this lucrative niche market is the Cargolifter project (dirigible)
