Delta Alliance

Fri Jun 18, 1999 6:50 am

Due to some talk in here about this, I decided to chime in on this. Now that United(Thai, SAS, Ansett, Lufthansa, etc.) and American(BA, Qantas, Cathay, Canadien), I was thinking that Delta could start an alliance. So far, it could included Delta, Sabena, Air France, Korean Air, China Southern, AeroMexico, Swissair, Aer Lingus, and Air Jamaica. This would create an alliance that goes to the US, France, Switzerland, the Caribbean, Ireland and the UK, the Far East and South America. Would this be a good idea?

I think that Delta needs this type of alliance. However, I'm not so sure that I would pick the carriers that you did. I am not sure how valuable AeroMexico would be in helping Delta's South American presence. The Asian carriers listed would help Delta's Pacific presence significantly. I think it would be a good idea for Alaska Airlines to be part of a Delta Airlines alliance so that its west coast operations would be greatly strenghtened.

It would certainly be a good idea for Delta to start a global alliance, but they may have to leave Aer Lingus out of it - Lingus is linking up with several oneworld carriers and is expected to join oneworld soon.

Why does'nt delta become a full member of the Qualiflyer group? they are partners with nearly all airlines in that alliance... Swissair, Sabena, Austrian, TAP Air Portugal.... So just make them a member and strengthen the QUALIFLYER to become major alliance.

About Swissair

I belivee Swissair will leave Delta for AA and BA. And OS will become the partner od Air France and Delta for Eastern Europe.
Maybe China Eastern or JAL (they aren't yet in oneworld) will become the asian partner.

I thought Id just tell you where I got the airlines from. I went to Deltas website, and just took some of the airlines in each region of the world and created the alliance. By the way, exactly what airlines will be in OneWorld.

Oneworld officially started with five airlines - American, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Canadian, and British Airways. Lan Chile and Finnair are next to join. I havnt heard which other airlines plan on joining - i dont think anyone is sure of that.

I knew there was an alliance with those airlines, I just figured it was called something else.

OS To Join Air France? Joke Of The Day!

Sun Jun 20, 1999 5:21 pm

AFa340-300E, It is totally unrealistic to think that OS will leave the Qualiflier group. They are forming one Airline with Swissair and Sabena with a joint purchase plan of planes, same price strategies and, and in the future, the use of each other's crew and equipment. Qualiflier is the most advanced grouping at the moment, AF has nothing to offer! I am really surprised that Delta chose the French (IF it's true).
In reality, AF is losing against Qualiflier in it's home country : More pax. from the provinces (outside Ile-de-France) fly on Sabena to Africa than on AF.

Two thingd:
1) SR owns 10% of OS capital, so i don't see them leaving SR anytime soon.
2) BA owns 9% of IB and AA owns 1%. IB will join soon, as soon as the required adjustments are made. JL is also rumoured to be joining the alliance -OneWorld that is- in the not so distant future.
