Delta 1949 Arrived! BYE BYE L1011

Wed Aug 01, 2001 6:23 am

This was the final L1011 flight for delta airlines. It is currently at atlanta gate T1. It will be removed so it can go be washed and so fourth for the party they will be having later. I will have exclusive video tommorw for a web site that I will post. For now here are some tracking pic's.

It will be missed. However, I love that Delta is donating it, along with spares to the Flying Hospital. That is incredible. I am glad to know that this aircraft will continue to serve in some way.

Critter, better than getting rid of no old aircraft - at least get rid of one. Anyhow, maybe they need the L-1011's less than the 727's or maybe the 727's are better fit for their routes.

Critter:

It's simply a question of airline economics and airline needs. Who else flies L1011's? No one. TW retired thiers years ago as did AC. TZ still flies em but they'll be gone in a few years. How many airlines fly the 747-200? Not too many. Apparently L10's are more expensive to maintain than 727's, and with dozens of newer widebodies on hand, the L10's become expendable. As sad as it is to see them go, it makes sense from a financial standpoint.

Yup, sturdy and and elegant-looking planes, I think a lot of the passengers who've flown in 'em over the years came away with overall favourable impressions. And a fine way for DL to retire this one, from the words of the PRNewswire article anyway.

I flew a Delta L-1011 from Atlanta to Hawaii, and It was awesome. but the entertainment wasn't that great. Being on an airplane for 12 hours with crap on radio and looking at ocean isn't realy that fun. Good thing i installed Counter Strike on my dads lap top and added a bot program or I would have died. It was fun take off and landing. I took the l-1011 to and from atlanta.
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

It's the last L-10 flight, why wouldn't Johan accept them?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I never flew one, at least that I can remember, I may have, but it's sure been a long time. My dad has flown them, he enjoyed it, or at least that's how it sounded to me. Sad to see the old birds go, but I guess the time had to come sooner or later....
