SAS New Airbus A330

Wed Aug 01, 2001 4:38 pm

Hello people.

First of all, are the four A330-300s and six A340-300s ordered by SAS Scandinavian intended to replace their current B767 fleet? Where will the new planes arrive?

If yes, I reckon they would opt for the A330-300s to fly into South East Asia due to its economic over A340s which is designed for ultra long range flights like HKG-JFK or something.

CPH-BKK currently is flown by the B767. Does the A330-300 have the enough range to fly CPH-BKK? The range that Airbus said the A333 has is some 10,500km. I believe CPH-BKK doesn't exceed the latter but people say that when airliners are fully loaded they are incapable of flying the range promised and if this is the case, does that mean the A340 will fly this route?

When the A330 series and A340 series are fully loaded, is their range on their technical sheet achievable?

I really appreciate your response and please forgive my ignorance and correct my mistakes if any.

SAS intend to use the A330s on North American routes like:

The west coast US and Asian routes will get the A340.

Don't forget that SAS has another 6 options for A330/A340's. Hopefully SAS will use them all.

The first 340 was delivered a couple of days ago.
The SAS A-330 has the range to fly BKK-CPH in normal wind conditions which are mainly westerly.Too strong headwinds, though, and you've got a fuel stop enroute on your hands. The CPH-BKK sector is no problem.
The A-330 was originally intended to be delivered without crew bunks, but because of the possibility of the A-330 being occasionally set to operate the CPH-BKK-CPH route, the decision was taken to have crew bunks installed from delivery.
And yes,it can do the sector with a full load of passengers, too.
