Boeing 787?

Sun Aug 05, 2001 2:15 am

I was just wondering, what do you think Boeing would do for the 787 model? Will it compare to the A380? Will it be long like the 777 or small like the 717? How many engines? Tell me what YOU think about it.

Although I know that Boeing isn't even considering thinking about it for another 7-15 years.

Probably the Sonic Cruiser or maybe the BWB. Who knows? Maybe the Sonic Cruiser is a ruse to throw people off while Boeing is working on another project.
Just a thought. Regards.

Good thought on the "Maybe the Sonic Cruiser is a ruse to throw people off while Boeing is working on another project", however, I don't belive that such a huge company could do that without anyone knowing.

There probably never will be a B787. The last I heard, future Boeing a/c will start with B2---, B2707, B2717, B2727 and so on... This will be introduced to represent the New Millenium.

Maybe the Sonic Cruiser will be called the 787 or maybe it will a A380 competitor.

What I heard is that Boeing is in troubles, and Airbus is going to become the owner of the whole company.

Boeing will survive with it's name, but it will produce only small field-spray aircrafts, under the license from the polish PZL aircraft industry.

Of course, that was all Big grin

I personaly belive it will be supersonic...

There's already been a B2707, the abortive SST programme cancelled in 1971. Doubt if Boeing will want to be reminded of that.
But then there's already been a 717-the company designation for the 707 derived KC-135 tanker.

CroFlight,

regarding your post.........
boeing is still doing very well, but are starting to get their butts kicked by airbus if they dont think of something soon. If in the future, airbus buys boeing, dont forget boeing just doesnt build commerical aircraft. they have satellites, military aircraft, space, missiles, and more. That is one of the reasons they are moving their headquarters to chicago. if it ever comes to that conclusion of airbus buying them, they will only buy their commerical aircraft division.

Elal106: I think CroFlight intended that to be a joke.

I heard that it was the SC that they were building. Remember, Boeing was 50% of the cause of the A380 existance. It was origionally a Boeing/Airbus joint venture. Boeing saw no market for it, and Airbus continued its research into the project and brought it to life. IMO, there is only an incredibly small market for the A380, but the market does exist, albeit a small one. It probably won't affect the future of Boeing.
I don't know, so this is my signature.

I think the sonic cruiser will be the 787... they have a plane for every market now... with the variants there is only a 20-30 passenger gap between models... the longest 737 (800?) carries almost as many people as the shortest 757, and the shortest 737 (700?) is not much bigger than the 717.

People know the 7-7 moniker means Boeing, I think they should stick with it.

As an aside, when I was a kid I designed a 787 Super Jumbo (in PA colours naturally) a double-decker with 8 doors per side (4 up, 4 down) and 5 engines!

The B 787 could be the NLA, originally the B 747-700. It is similar to the A 380 but slightly bigger.

It could also be the Sonic Cruiser. But I doubt it will be the BWB. The BWB will not enter service until 20 years later I guess.

NLA has a good chance of being the 787,, thatd be nice.
I always thought that Boeing will develop a 737-1000 to compete its family tree.
the BWB looks interesting indeed. The SST yah I think itllbe the 2707 or 2727.. but more so 2707..
Man what a plane it will be once it starts flying.
