Air Canada Changes It's Plane From YYZ-TLV

Sun Aug 05, 2001 2:43 am

Currently, Air Canada operates a daily flight from Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International (YYZ) to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport. Currently, when leaving YYZ, you depart Toronto at 23:55 YYZ time and arrive in TLV at 17:50 the next day (TLV time).

When departing TLV, you depart at 0105 Tel Aviv time and then you arrive in Toronto at 6:20 AM YYZ time.

The current plane used is a Boeing 767-300 ER but due to passenger demand, starting this October, a A340 will be used.

My source is the Captain on flight 886 from TLV to YYZ on June 28, 2001. Sorry that I don't remember his name, but he told me this info.

I believe this will be the only A340 flying regularly into TLV, am I correct?

No you are not. sorry.
LH operates twice a day A343 on it's FRA-TLV-FRA route.
It also operates 3 weekly flights between MUC and TLV on the A343.

By checking the scheduals for OCT you would see that AC will not deploy the A343 starting on that month, it will happen when things get better in the middle east, maybe even before but not on October.

Listen up Mikey

I know what he said to me. In October, Air Canada will be flying A340s instead of Boeing 763s. There's no need for you to say the exact opposite of everything that I say.

Wassup Bentsi??!!

You wrote: >>>"starting this October, a A340 will be used. "
The actual schedules for OCT of AC #886/7, taken from Amadeus:

Air Canada
AC 886 Pearson Int'l (YYZ), Toronto, ON, Canada 23:55
Ben Gurion Int'l (TLV), Tel Aviv, Israel 16:50 + 1 day
Non-stop
763

Air Canada
AC 887 Ben Gurion Int'l (TLV), Tel Aviv, Israel 00:05
Pearson Int'l (YYZ), Toronto, ON, Canada 06:20
Non-stop
763

You asked: >>>"I believe this will be the only A340 flying regularly into TLV, am I correct?"
I just answered: LH operates A343 to TLV for allmost 3 years now, also in 1994-5 with A342.

The fact that you need all the time to be corrected is really not my fault.

AC A340

Air Canada changes its schedule frequently, so if you check online and it says that B763 will be used, it still doesn't mean anything as they might change this info on the next schedule update --- especially after AC announced the fleet modification. If you go to AC's site and download its schedule, u'll notice that they update the info WEEKLY.

Anyways, still appreciated a lot for the information!

Pretty much said, "I know what the pilot told me, why are you always proving me wrong?!"

What other routes has/is AC changing aircraft to the A340? I noticed they changed the YYZ-GRU-EZE flight aswell. Where are they getting these extra planes from? Are they still recieving new ones from airbus or are they changing routes' aircraft? Are any routes being downgraded to 767s?

Hey, fellas, don't get so uptight over such a minor issue. The captain probably knew some inside infornation, maybe even participated in some discussions on the subject. The October schedule published today does not necessarily reflect what will actually happen. Conversely, AC may have been considering using the 340 but changed their minds.

When I worked in Vancouver in the 70's, I often flew to HNL on business (US Navy). On one of the trips, the CP aircraft was a 747 not a DC-8 as published in the timetable. A guy sitting next to me was an airline employee and said he knew about the switch several weeks earlier, that's why he chose this flight so it will have more room for standby's.

There is no predicting from day to day what type aircraft will be working what route or even if a route will stay in the schedule. Birds are being shuffled around constantly and routes are also being flipped between AC and CP metal which are still crewed separately. This is being done in the name of fine tuning the demand and capacity of each destination in the market and assigning metal from the combined fleet that best compliments both.

The whirlwind changes can be disconcerting to all of us, I know.
