Your 2018 route suggestions per airline

Sun Dec 24, 2017 2:34 pm

Just like last year (link) I'm sure we all got some suggestions for our favourite airlines on what routes they'll be succesful.

Request as you please, but try to keep it realistic. Routes should be attached to at least one hub for the airline and flyable with the aircraft they got.

Qantas

Brisbane (BNE) - Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) 789
Brisbane (BNE) - Chicago (ORD) 789
Brisbane (BNE) - Wellington (WLG) 73H
Sydney (SYD) - Vancouver (YVR) 744 - Year round

A 2nd US gateway was supposed to be announced by the end of the year. DFW seems most likely to me but ORD has been rumoured too. I'd be happy to see either. I'd also like to see YVR go year round while I see it ultimately becoming a daily 789 route, SYD isn't due to get a 789 base in 2018 but there should be 744 capacity freed up from BNE-LAX-JFK going 789 mid year. Lastly Wellington selfishly because it is one of my favourite cities in NZ and it would be nice having a QF (or EK, just saying) nonstop option rather than Virgin Australia's flight. Which leads me to...

Emirates

Dubai (DXB) - Brisbane (BNE) - Wellington (WLG) 77L

With the current BNE-AKL tag ending soon I expect there to be a reshuffle of BNE schedules currently of the three flights there are 2 DXB nonstops departing within 1h40m with a SIN/DXB 4h10m after that and nothing between 0235 and 2045. It was teased on the NZ general thread that a second airline was looking at sending 777s to WLG via Australia in 2018 and BNE just happened to get a 77L for it's new third daily service which would be the least weight restricted variant for WLG. And while we're at it with the reschedule it would be nice to see the BNE-SIN-DXB flight moved to a not so terrible hour.

United

San Francisco (SFO) - Brisbane (BNE) 788 or 789

I know I've been putting this down for a while but I think it's a good way for UA to expand to Australia. SFO-MEL is probably more attractive but now that QF have announced the route they won't be the only airline on the route. SFO-BNE on the otherhand they would be the only airline on that route, it keeps them out of the crowded BNE-LAX sector, they have a large hub in SFO and it's within reach of the 788 should the 789 be too big.

Delta

Seattle (SEA) - Sydney (SYD) 77E/77L/359

The next likely US west coast gateway simply DL because they have a hub in SEA. Not sure if it be at the expense of LAX/SYD, But they are already at 2 daily on that route with the VA J/V. Qantas could also potentially open the route with the 789 they already have a long standing relationship with AS, but as with YVR no SYD based 789 in 2018.

Air New Zealand

Auckland (AKL) - Canberra (CBR) 320
Auckland (AKL) - Newcastle (NTL) 320
Auckland (AKL) - Chicago (ORD) 789

Canberra and Newcastle are the next largest ports missing from the Transtasman network if timed right will connect nicely to North and South America. Doesn't need to be daily. They could go 4 weekly CBR and 3 weekly NTL. Can be marketed as better way than going via Sydney. Also could be flown by Transtasman J/V partner VA and their 73H fleet. Although not sure how that would work with North and South America connections which aren't covered in the J/V. And Chicago seems the next logical US gateway.

Hey vhqpa,
I totally agree on Sydney-Seattle, and have for a long time championed this route. I see Delta as being he airline most likely to open it, in a JV with Virgin Australia.
I also agree with you on one other route. Auckland-Canberra on Air New Zealand must be a matter of 'when' and not 'if'.... There are regular rumours about it in the Canberra area... And I can't see Qantas nor Virgin Australia moving in first to start this route.
Cheers

Nice suggestions. Currently SCQ (the largest airport in NW Spain) is completely unserved by AFKL; even Air Europa only serves beach routes (so no connectivity via MAD).

IAG is the largest group in SCQ (on par with Ryanair in numbers of PAX), and Lufthansa Group which started flights only a few years ago is expanding services next summer (with up to 10 weekly flights between FRA/MUC/ZRH; not bad for a relatively small airport); so it seems Skyteam / AFKL is really lagging behind.

AC - YLW to YEG. If WS can pretty well sell full flights 12 flights a day (6 each one way between the two), AC could surely fill a couple of Dash 8s a day.

I will name just two possible routes to be announced in 2018 as there are so many short haul destinations from LLCs to consider and those suggestions regarding international routes are endless but my choices are,

London Heathrow to St Louis with British Airways with B788.

Dar Es Salaam to London Gatwick with Air Tanzania once they receive their B788 in Q3 2018.

Also really hoping Norwegian will enter the South African market like they've been saying they want to for a long time.
Will think CPT might be a bigger focus for them, best possibly a few frequencies a week from most of their bases, one or two weekly: LGW, CPH, ARN, BCN and FCO
JNB perhaps only from LGW, CPH and BCN
Possibly then also DUR from LGW.

Also hoping that 2018 will be the year for another US airline to enter South African market, either AA from MIA, UA from IAD,EWR or ORD or then at least DL returning to CPT.

Hey guys,
I would love to see Norwegian activate their requested Buenos Aires - Sydney route application, and likewise start a Singapore - Sydney route to connect Sydney to their worldwide network. Both routes would sure stir up the legacies!
Unlikely in the near future, but what a move if Norwegian was brave enough to do it!
Cheers,

That would mean you could fly Norwegian around the world. London Gatwick - Buenos Aires - Sydney - Singapore - London Gatwick all on Norwegian. What other airline offers this possibility?

XNA-LGA (CR7, the addition of a morning flight to complement the evening service similar to AA)
XNA-SLC (CR7/9, twice a day) This was last flown and subsequently dropped in the recession, and on CR2s as well.

I would like to see some Intra-Florida connectivity lead by JetBlue. As well as a few others

RSW-MCO B6 *Already operated by Silver but not advertised at all or code shared
RSW-DUB EI Would be great to get another European operator in here and Great Britain/Ireland get another sun destination
RSW-LAX AS/VX This would prove the area is not just a retirement mecca and would be successful 9 out of 12 months

SRQ-DTW DL *This was operated since the 70's by republic/northwest and now for years DL operates it for 3 weeks a year, always full too, bring it back 6 months seasonal
SRQ-FLL B6 We desperately need a connection to the FLL hub (NO we don't all want or like to drive)
SRQ-JAX B6

DTW-DXB EK
DTW-DOH QR *one of them will come eventually
DTW-YYC WS
DTW-YVR WS
DTW-YTZ PD *this would be a great success if marketed properly
DTW-AUA DL Nov-Apr
DTW-SXM DL Nov-Apr *Help with Recovery and new exciting destination for the DTW catchment
DTW-LAX AS/VX
DTW-ICN KE
DTW-LIS TP *Tap is very aggressive with connecting fares and expanding so why not
DTW-DUB EI
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list!

Would love love LOVE to see Porter think outside the box and add Montreal to Newark.

Per above post - I am rather surprised Delta is not hanging out on Indy to Tampa or Vegas.

TAP Portugal Lisbon to O'Hare would be nice.
if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport
