The fastest growing airlines

Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:25 am

There is quite often talk of a rapidly growing airline, which led me to wonder:

Which airlines have grown the fastest (in terms of fleet size) from the day the started operating?

So for example, since starting operating in May 2012, WOW air has 17 aircraft in the fleet and 10 on order.

There's Ryanair - from 1 x 15 seat turboprop in 1984 to 417 737s in 2018, with 245 on order
Or EasyJet - from a handful of leased 733s in 1995 to 279 A320 series in 2018 with 309 on order

There are a couple of "millennial" airlines that will probably grab this crown.

IndiGo start: August 2006 current fleet: aprox. 155
JetBlue start: February 2000 current fleet: apox. 243
Lion Air Group start June 2000 current fleet all Subsidiaries: well over 200

Just to name 3.

Norwegian deserves to be mentioned here.

Surprisingly the fastest growing airlines seem to be mostly LCCs. Legacy airlines tend to grow slower.

Because it doesn’t answer what the OP asked...
Why is flying so expensive? And why is flying well so much more?

And I'm extremely surprised that no one has even mentioned Air Asia and it's affiliated airlines and their huge fleets.
