Which RJ Company Do You Prefer?

Tue May 11, 2004 7:15 am

Which regional manufacturer do you prefer, Embraer, Bombardier, Saab, etc.?

Please note that this post is NOT A vs. B.

Canadair. But I've never flown on an Embraer jet, so that may change  Big grin

I've flown on the CRJ 200, ERJ 145 and SAAB 2000. I prefer the ERJ, with the SAAB coming in second. Having said that, let me also add that this topic has been discussed countless times here and it always ends up with Bombardier lovers insulting Embraer supporters and vice-versa.

SAAB makes RJs....? Interesting.

Though I think that CRJs are better overall aircraft, I'd prolly say I prefer ERJs.

Embraer. By far.

A quite comfortable craft, especially on the A-side, with leather seats  Big grin. AND, the windows are placed right  Laugh out loud.

Just kidding. I couldn't care less about the seat's material. But it's nice when they're leather. Continental Express comes to mind here...

I've been fortunate to fly on the CRJ-200 and CRJ-700, and I loved them both. Then again being 5'10" didn't hurt while flying on the -200.

Gotta love Bombardier though!

I prefer Embraer over Canadair anyday. Apparently some of ASA's employees don't like the CRJ, as I saw on one of their tugs a sticker with a canadian flag, and right beside it someone had written with a permanent marker AMERICA'S #1 BITCH. Pictures available upon request.

Being 6' 4" tall, I don't like any of them for more than about an hour. The CRJ's seem slightly "bigger" so I'll go with them. But a 737 or A320 is much better.

By far, my favorite is Avro if that counts. Next is Embraer and after that is Fairchild Dornier. A distant last is Canadair. I have flown on the Avro RJ85, Embraer 145, Do328JET, and the CRJ-100 and -200.

Which RJ do people complain about the windows being "too low"? I have been on both, and I believe that the CRJ one had rather low windows.

In January of this month I flew on the ERJ-145XR on Continental. It was an AMAZING aircraft. Definitely beats the CRJ I flew with Delta.

While i havent flown the CRJ, i've flown COEX's ERJ-145, sat in the "C" seat/side of the plane, last seat last row window.

Felt very roomy, and the plane was 100% loaded on a DTW-CLE flight, maybe it felt roomy because i was last row all the way in the back, not sure. Was also very quiet being next to the engine. Would have no problem taking another one! CRJ's, based on pics on airliners.net, i'd try to avoid if possible, but i'll fly on one someday just to test it out.

I used to really enjoy the CRJ's until I flew the ERJ. Just a jet powered Brasilia but alot more comfortable. I also still the like the FRJ's for their climb performance but not their cruise performance. Climb like a bat out of hell and crawl thru the skies at altitude.

I prefer the Embraer's.... I flew a CRJ-200 on a short hop from PHX-LAX and found it much more cramped...  Sad

I prefer the Bombardier, flew on the Embrarer a few times, just dont like it as much. My favorite turboprop to ride on is the DH8 series and the D328 was fun to ride on, even the EMB-120 wasn't bad, the SF340 just sucks imo, been on one way to many times and generally will avoid them.

I like the CR7 (especially if it is a QX one  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ), but the CRJ-200 sucks in my opinion, too cramped. I really like the BAe 146, that is probably my favorite RJ overall. Here are my top 3.

1. BAe 146
2. CRJ-700
3. CRJ-900

I've flown on the ERJ and ER3 with Continental and American and the CRJ and CR7 with Delta. I would rank order them this way...

CO ERJ
AA ERJ
DL CR7
CO ER3
DL CRJ

The DL CRJ flight was from Cincy to Knoxville. It was loud, cramped, and generally uncomfortable. The CR7 is a BIG improvement.

The CO ERJs, especially on the A side or C side if the seat next to you is vacant, are quite pleasant. The overhead bins held my bags, I didn't feel the need to duck down too much (I am 6'1"), and the seats are quite comfy. The longest route I've flown was IAH-Montrose Colorado. That's a little over two hours and I didn't mind one bit. Don't think I'd want to try it all the way to Boise though...

I guess the Bae146 counts as my first RJ flight however as the seating was 3-3 and the flight over two hours so it wasn't a typical RJ flight.
My preference has always been with the ERJ family from Embraer and in particular the smallest member the 135. I just find it a really nice aircraft to be a passenger in. I have also flown in the CRJ and CR7, I find the latter a vast improvement over the CRJ but I still prefer the ERJ135

Speaking from a strictly aesthetic stand point I would have to give top honors to the CRJ line. They are just dead sexy to me. From what I understand they seem very cramped inside, that does not work well for my. In that department I've heard that the new Embraer stands out. But my all time fave RJ is the BAe 146s. I like the high wing / 4 engine aspect.

Thank God this thread hasn't turned into a A vs. B type competition. I have been on Embraer and Canadair. Both are good planes, but just like their big brothers the seats are too small. To quote a line from Andy Rooney from CBS' 60 Minutes, "Would it really kill you to give us some more room?" The same goes for the lavs.

The Do328Jet was by far the most comfortable RJ I have ever flown. I was on the A side, exit row, and it was just wonderful. Definitely the most room I have ever had on an RJ. I have never flown an ERJ, but the CRJs are not too bad to me, for a length of time. ORD - CAE on those has never been an issue. Of course, as always, I will always prefer mainline metal when available.

I gotta give a shout out to all the Bae-146 playas in this thread. and to all the hata's...lets see you get out of aspen in a CRJ or an ERJ beotch!

umm yeah thats all the ghetto talk i can muster. Yeah the -146 is awesome. I've flown in a CRJ-200 and it wasn't so bad, only from ORD-MLI (35 mins) so i didn't have much to experience. I have been inside an ERJ-140 and it was kind of ish i thought. the CRJ is prettier than all of them though. The mini 747 will always be my fav  Big grin

I prefer Bombardier's CRJs. The CRJs always seem to be more powerful and comfortable than the ERJs.

Thanks for all the replies!

I have yet to come to a decision as I have only flown on the CRJ100/200s with OO and Pinnacle, and I now try to avoid them. My first experience with the CRJ in 1995 was a very good experience (BOI-SLC), but I was slightly shorter and quite a bit thinner then (I was only 14). The last time I flew RJs I thanked God I am only 5'8". I have no idea how tall people can stand the lack of legroom.

Definatly the CRJ-900's. What a comfortable aircraft. Also I think they are the best looking in their class (even though that means nothing).
