What Extinct Aircraft Do You Wish You Had Flown On

Mon May 10, 2004 10:00 am

What aircraft, that is no longer in service, do you wish you had had the chance to fly on?
For me, number one would without a doubt be the Boeing 707.
I also would have liked to fly on the DC-8-70 series. And would also liked to have flown on some of the classic turboprops, like the Convairs or the Lockheed Electra.

I think the list of extinct aircraft that I don't want to fly/fly again would be much shorter.....  Big grin

Concorde, no question. Runners up would be the CV880/990 series aircraft.

No matter what airplane these days, the flight basically remains the same, the same cruising altitude, speed, etc. Mach 2+ at 59000 feet, and civilian, that's once in a lifetime.

I'd also love to fly on a classic airliner from the golden age, like the DC-3 Constellation, get a grasp of what commercial travel was like back then and see how far modern airliners have come from them.
I'd rather be flying (real original)

I was very lucky that I managed to fly on one L-1011 before TWA pulled them out of service completely. Ironically, I've lost track of how many DC-10's I have been on, but just that one Lockheed aircraft.

I never got to fly on a DC-8 at all, nor for that matter, an MD-11. I have flown on every type of Boeing (with the exception of a 720), and numerous MD aircraft.

I tried very hard to book a Delta flight with an A310, but it never materialized. Ironically, I get to see an Airbus A300 at SAN all the time, but never got to fly one.

And, of course, the Concorde.

Martin 202
Martin 130
Boeing 314
Lockheed L-049, L-749, L1049, L-1649

Forgetting the aircraft that I never had a chance to ride, that list is way too long, I'll stick to those few in the past 30 years that I did but missed.

I guess that covers them all.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy (subtypes not included)

I've been very lucky to have flown on a number of aircraft listed here, namely DC-3, DC-4, JU-52, 707, VC-10 and L-1011, but top of my list would be Concorde, then the Connie and the Comet.

Gee, I feel lucky to have flown in many of the airline A/C on people's lists here: Martin 404, DC-3, 707, Electra, DC-10, MD-11, CV-240, CV-680, CV-880, CV-990, L-1011, DC-6, DC-7, Caravelle, BAC-111, DC-8, B-727, B-747-100, DC-9(15, the one without leading edge slats).

I think that the one that I missed, the Connie, would top my list; and, of course, Concorde.

Like most a lot of others, Concorde is on my list - other than that, it would be the DC10 (have the L1011), DC8 (have 707) and DC6 (have DC3)...

Those are the ones that I primarily regret missing - but there are more...
