EMB Or CRJ?

Sat May 22, 2004 11:54 am

I recently had my first rides on regional jets. I had a Delta Ctx EMB-145 from JFK to DTW about a month ago....and today a Delta Ctx CRJ from DTW to Cinncinati and back.

Which do you prefer?

I liked the EMB better. I liked the 1-2 seating, it had larger windows and seemed quieter.

I've only flown the ERJ and I really do like it. It's a great plane for its size. I'll be flying the CRJ in 2 months, however, so I'll let you know then how I think they compare.

I think the CRJ looks a little "fat". That stubby nose and short, fat engines make it look bloated and overweight.

The ERJ is narrow and sleek by comparison.

ERJ V. CRJ

Sat May 22, 2004 12:05 pm

I've flown on CO and AA's ERJ's and DL's CRJ's. I dunno about all CRJ's, but DL's seats on the CRJ's are unusually hard. The ERJ's have great seats and great windows by comparison. To look out the window on a CRJ, you have to lean forward and look down. Not a comfortable feeling. The ERJ, you can look out by turning your head to the left or right (depending on side of the plane).

You'll love the ERJ so much more after you've ridden on a CRJ.

PS - My favorite plane is the Dornier 328Jet. Plushy seats and great big windows (looks on the outside are decieving).

The CRJ is a great aircraft. I really like flying it. The Embraer aircraft have impressed me, but i thought it was less comfortable than the CRJ. I think the CRJ is better, but im no expert.

I find the CRJ-100/200's window position unacceptable, and I can't stand upright in the bathrooms.

The ERJ isn't a ton better, but the windows make all the difference.

The new E-Jets should be better in all regards.

Exactly what I mean. I don't think anybody can stand up in a airplane bathroom and expect to hit anything but their leg, the mirror, sink, t.p. roll, etc. The CRJ for DL I was in, the bathroom light didn't even work, so I had to leave the door partially "bent" to see what I was doing in there!

Ride on the CRJ-700s and -900s, especially America West Express (Mesa Air/Freedom Airlines). Their windows are raised (I think it's their floor lowering idea that facilitated higher window positions).

So, what gigneil said about "the new E-Jets" being better, the newer C- jets also has it.

Here's some comparisons:

Not a big fan of either. I don't like checking carry-on size bags (bags smaller than rollaboards, I mean.... like my briefcase with my laptop and sometimes bottles of wine which I'd rather not see broken). The cabin curves inward by your feet when you're in the window seat, and the seats themselves tend to be rather uncomfortable. Flown 'em coast to coast (with a connection, of course) and felt the need to visit a chiropractor upon arrival. Completely agree with Gigneil and Smcmac32msn about the size of the bathrooms... I do prefer the Embraer's seating, the 1X2 v. Canadair's 2X2. Guess I'd choose the EMB over the CRJ 100/200 series. However, the CRJ700/900 series' are a big improvement, with higher windows and overhead bins slightly larger. Still, I will always, ALWAYS take a mainline jet over an RJ given the choice.

GotAirbus?-

Not a good picture comparison. The one picture you can't see where the windows are. BTW... I flew on a CRJ-200 and a CRJ-700 when I wasn't on the 328Jet of DL's. The window positions were nearly identical.

Ive flown in on an American Eagle EMB and last week I flown on a US Airways Express CRJ. The EMB was much roomier with the 1x2 seating unlike the CRJ with the 2x2 seating. The windows on the CRJ are positioned low so its a strain look out the window and felt very claustrophobic in the CRJ. In my opinion the EMB is a much superior aircraft.

I've flown a lot recently on CO's ERJ-135, and ERJ-145s and American Eagles's ERJ-145s and CRJ-700s. The pro for the ERJ's is the 1-2 seating, good for flying solo, though it's a little cramped for my left leg. The pro for the CRJm to mem was noise. I thought the CRJ was much more quite, I could actually hear the music on my headphone on the CRJ. I had row 5 in each case, so they were comparible.

As has been pointed out already, the CRJ-700 and -900 do have an inch more headroom than the CRJ-200 due to the floor being lowered an inch. However, the cabin floor width is 2" narrower because of this. The windows on the 700/900 are 5.8 inches higher than on the 200. And the bins are the same size - they have only been redesigned to give more head and shoulder clearance.

"So, what gigneil said about "the new E-Jets" being better, the newer C- jets also has it."

Aside from the relatively minor changes pointed out above, the CRJ-200 and the CRJ-700/900 are basically the same aircraft, fuselage wise. The E-Jets are vastly different than the ERJs. And there have been several threads comparing the E170 to the CRJ-700 (and even a trip report). There is no comparison, the E170 is more comfortable in every category. In fact, the E170 has wider seats and a wider aisle than the 737.

I agree with much of what has been said. I prefer the ERJ due to the seating configuration and window position. I especially enjoy sitting in 1A and 2A, though storage of carryons can be a bit of a problem. I'm looking forward to my first E170 flight in August (provided, of course, that US still exists).

I prefer by far EMB: I find it more quiter and the 2+1 seat position is better in my opinion than 2+2 in such small planes. I fly on LX, AZ, and LG EMB 145 and on AF, OS and LH CRJ: the impression was the same in all this aircraft.

I prefer the CRJ, I like the 2/2 seating and the reliability is better the ERJ.

Well my dad and me will only fly on planes that have first class cabins so we avoid regional jets unless there's no other choice. In that case i perfer the ERJ because if u get the solo seat you wont have to worry about getting crushed by an overweight person sititng next to u (but on top of u instead).

Never flew on a CRJ. ERJs are great though. Small, but comfortable. Have flown on two flights on them- LGA-BOS and BOS-LGA.
