The Worst Airline Food?

Sat Jun 05, 2004 5:36 am

What was the WORST airline food you have ever eaten on a flight? What airline? Mine was probably the chicken breasts on AA. They served them on my flight from Frankfurt to DFW and it tasted and looked like it was made from plastic.

Flying Colours. Charter airline. Burnt beyond recognition.

Also had very bad food on a BA 744 once. Come to think of it, BA food has never been that great.

It's free food*, I will never complain  Smile

*of course it's part of the ticket price, but still and all, its airline food, and if you not up front, what do you really expect? Prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

I am surprised to hear this, I have always said BA's food has been some of the best I have ever had. I mean, christ, the only thing that beats their All Day Deli Chicken sandwich is a Subway one!

I thought KLM's food was nice too, but BA's def best.

My worst has to be on BA (LGW-MAN-LGW).

Didn't bother me too much though because it was only a short flight!

Anyway, we had a hot breakfast going out and I wasn't going to eat it as it looked vile! It was a good job that I didn't want it as they said they didn't have any knifes or forks on-board today. The others on the aircraft who wanted to eat it had to make do with a coffee stirrer!

I wondered what food we would get on the return flight, much to my surprise, they made an announcement and said they would not be providing us with a in-flight service as they didn't have enough crew on-board! What a joke!

Delta's food is ok though!

Cheers,

Jamie.

But....

Are we talking about coach or business/first class meals here?

I would be pretty pissed off about that, and would probably result in me making a (rare) complaint.

I have always had amazing service on BA, always.

I am pretty worried about what the service and food will be like on my EI flights latter this year (MAN-DUB-JFK) - I don't hear much good stuff about them, although its my first A330 ride.

Me too. Out of all the airlines in all the world I have to say that BA has consistantly served the worst food. One particularly bad one was a salmon dinner oubound to NCE and a salmon dinner again on the return. There was no alternative for us non-fish eaters. On the way to the toilets at the back I noticed that very few pax had eaten the stuff. It looked and smelt vile.

Now I always take the precaution when I travel with BA of packing something just in case. The "All Day Deli" isn't up to much either.

On a positive note Air france food is great.

and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

FLL - PHL on USA 3000. It was a "Lettuce Vegetarian Wrap". It was the "shell", lightly covered in some sort of dressing/cheese with all lettuce, except two half-dollar sized tomatoes. Man, was it dry! It came with a little container with one of each: broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and celery. But for the $99 O/W ticket price, with some paying only $49 O/W, it was better than pretzels.

My mom had a bad beef entree ORD - SFO. Luckily, I got the last chicken.  Smile

On the few BA flights I've been on from DEN-LHR-DEN(Ba218/219) an JFK-LHR-JFK, LHR-BOS, the food has been good.
Esp, the chicken korma with naan bread out of LHR, and the little Cadbury dairy milk, or kit kat to polish the meal off  Smile (I've had this meal at least twice)

So, on the whole, BA catering is good on the international segments I've been on.

My vote would have to go to Brittania. I think they're the worst airline ever in terms of service, comfort, food and just about everything else.

Head serious food poisoning once on a Lufthansa flight, business class, ADD-CAI-Frankfurt. Was hospitalized for one week upon arrival due to the resulting dehydration.
No more Lufthansa for me.

CO GUM-AB) (MNL / RPLL), Philippines">MNL... Pork Adobo. Tough and dry. My mouth had a great work out. I swear I could have made homemade paper.

The one experience that really stands out is flying OS AMS-VIE-AMS in business class. It's rather sad, since they obviously put a lot of effort into the meal service, but the hot lunch and hot dinner I got were atrocious. If I remember correctly, it was some kind of lamb swimming in gravy and mashed potatoes or something like that. Return flight might have been beef, but I don't remember. It looked horrible and smelled horrible. I did not even try to eat it. The rest of the meal was good with attentive service though.

It might also be a case of not having a choice. On another AMS-VIE-AMS trip, I had the hot breakfast which was excellent, and on the return flight there was goose breast, which was actually pretty good. Still way too much gravy, but at least it was OK. (And on a CRJ too!)

Yes, but probably not in coach. I've even had good steak (i.e. not overcooked, but still pink in the center) on Kuwait Airlines F class, many decent meals on SQ, BA, MH and CO long-haul business class. It's never quite as good as food on the ground, though.

So far I have been fortunate to have good food on most of my trips and all have been on economy.
Its amazing how much work and time goes by these catering services who prepares 1000's of regulated meals for numerous airlines yet some are simply atrocious. Its sad as well when airlines cut back on their budgets and the inflight meals turn to rubbish. BY all means, this should be the last thing they should regulate since its an obvious reflection of their customer ser5vice and care. THats just my opinion.

I have flown Qantas twice (Domestic and International). Food was good especially on the 767 to Auckland. On the way there was ravioli and on the way back was some other pasta dish. Both were good.

I recently flew with China Eastern, Dragonair and Qantas and all three were excellent in the food department with a selection of two meals each time. I might add that I was surprised the Dragonair food was as good as it was considering the flight wasn't really all that long.
However the worst ever that I have suffered was on a domestic sector with American Airlines on a 757. This flight was longer than the previously mentioned Dragonair flight but instead of food I was instructed to take a brown paper nose-bag from something similar to a street vendors cart which contained a bread roll (I think it was supposed to resemble) and some chips and a few more chips. Most of these things smelled a bit like they were near food within the last week. I gave it to the land fill department in Los Angeles and ate at the airport instead.
I remember when the DC-3 was new!
