If You Could Bring Back An Airline

Sat Jun 12, 2004 12:50 am

which would it be?

Eastern?
PanAm? (the big PanAm)
PeopleExpress (what a horrendous name)
Braniff
MuseAir
TexasInternational
RenoAir

I'd love to see both Eastern and Pan Am strong again............

Of course that is just my regional mentality. I hate to see any airline disappear.

It is nice to see the blue ball on the tail of the PanAm 727s down in the Caribbean but it is just not the same as when their Clippers roamed the whole planet.

Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

Oh how I'd love to bring Midway back to RDU. They had great friendly service and gave the triangle so many new destinations. I loved there c/s too. Just look.

I'd have to say Eastern. The very first flight I ever took was on Eastern when I was 5 from PIT->ATL->Orlando

Reno and Mark Air were nice. Nice planes, good cabin crews and excellent food.

Orion Airways - An English Charter carrier

The FA's were friendly (well I didn't know, I was 12 or 13 at the time) and the aircraft looked a little different to all the others, plus they took me on vacation at the time, so I always associated it with good things.

Plus they had the distinction of having the "737th" 737 built (see pic below), which I had the pleasure of flying on to Majorca once. Very cool.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Two regional carriers: PSA (Pacific Southwest Airlines) and AirCal (Air California).

PSA: Who couldn't resist the smiling airliner?

For me, even though I didn't work for them it would be Piedmont.
Excellent service, low cost operation, great passenger loyalty, wonderful employee morale, and they took great care of their airplanes. Obviously a well managed company; if Piedmont's management had remained in place after the merger with USAir, I believe they wouldn't be on the verge of extinction now.

The 722 tail looks like it was designed just for Piedmont's livery! And the 732 looked like an arrow with that cheatline extending onto the nose like that. One of the best managed airlines in [sadly] history, with one of the best liveries ever.

TWA Trans World Airlines. Only flew with them once, when I was really little. Was set to try them again, but we cancelled our trip to Florida due to a sickness in the family. Would love to have to money to purchase the name from AMR, and have the TWA 747s pop in and out of JFK again  Sad.

Another vote for Swissair... this time totally free from ruinous alliances! In fact Swissair would have done just fine, thank you, (IMHO) had they adopted the same operating philosophy of their home nation -- commerce and diplomatic relations with all nations of the world but strict neutrality meaning no alliances of any kind with any other nation -- including airlines based outside of Switzerland.
