When 'You' Cross The Pond - Who Do You Fly With?

Sat Jun 12, 2004 11:36 pm

Ok, lets see if we can find the most used Airline from Europe - North America.

I usually fly with:

BD from MAN - 1st choice
UA from LHR - 2nd Choice
US from MAN or LGW - 3rd choice

(im flying US from LGW in august because it was offering the cheapest deal and the best scedule)

I'll be on US95 LGW - CLT returning on US94 CLT - LGW.

Will be my first trip on US Air and its my favourite aircraft too - A330

Thanks

Lee

LH or UA from NUE via AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA/MUC - most convenient schedule and good to perfect service (depending on class of service)

For the last ten years it has been a combination of:

Northwest, Continental and KLM. Always to AMS, 99% with an onward KL flight.

Before that I was a regular Pan Am flyer from JFK!

LOT Polish: KJFK-EPWA, KEWR-EPWA [Y class] (about 11 times so far)
British Airways: KJFK-EGLL [F class] (once)
Finnair: KJFK-EFHK [Y class] (4 times)

i'd have to say that the most memorable trip was the one on speedbird with my gf. since them, i'm a member of the mile high club. this summer i'll probably do KPHL-EDDF. (nonrev)

I prefer BA. Unfortunately there isn't a direct connection between Berlin and the states. Therefore I connect through LHR with BA. The BA connection between TXL and LHR aren't expensive and the service - well it's BA.

I'd like to fly with VS sometime.... only been across the pond twice, once to Orlando from MAN with ATA, and to SFO with UA. Both were great  Smile

I prefer British Airways to Air Canada, especially when Air Canada has the nerve to be more expensive.  Angry

I will, however, be taking AC from YYZ-LHR-YYZ in the fall, but only because it was bought with Air Miles. Big grin

I'd love to try VS one day.

Cheers - Skytrain.

My first choice is always Delta (big surprise!), followed by Continental, Air France, KLM, Air Canada and British Airways.

9 out of 10 times I will go with the cheapest. 99% of the time, that's Delta.

My first choice across the pond (and to everywhere else!) is British Airways. World Traveller, World Traveller Plus and Club World are all excellent products. Hopefully one day I'll experience FIRST. "The way to fly" says it all.  Smile

My second choice is Virgin Atlantic. They are a very good airline and I've had positive experiences with them, I'd happily fly VS again.

Well I suppose it's a little obvious from my username, what I would choose.

Been LHR-SFO-LHR 7 times with VS and once with BA and I have to say my worst experience with VS (actually a LGW-SFO-LGW flight) was better than my BA flight.

And besides, I just love VS and despite what a lot of people think about him, Branson is IMHO, an extremely smart cookie!

I only fly with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic across the pond.

BA I have flown from BOS, EWR, TPA, PHL
VS I have flown from SFO, JFK, and EWR

The decision between the two lies with whether I want to earn FF miles with BA or CO (they codeshare with VS).

BA or VS, preferably BA. BA are just very solid. Their products - in each of their 4 classes - are very strong and they are extremely consistent. VS, when they get it right, are very good, but having flown quite a few times with them, are woefully inconsistent and too often seem amateurish. Their products are strong, but they often let themselves down with poor execution. The US carriers, by contrast, are very lacklustre and seem lazy.

I always choose BD from MAN to either IAD or ORD and then on to wherever with UA. Have also used BA MAN-JFK but much prefer BD's product and aircraft. If I have to travel from London, then it's usually UA. Their transatlantic service is usually OK in my opinion, although the domestic sectors are somewhat Spartan in service!

BD without a second thought. Just a quality operation across the puddle.

Second choice would be CO for consistently good service and great connections through Newark.

Must try US one day, I hear good things about their MAN-PHL service.

I'm sure BA are great from London (never needed to use a LHR connection yet) but their MAN-JFK on G-TECH* simply sucks beyond belief compared to what else is on offer today.

Crossed the pond with Britannia, British Airways, Continental, United and Virgin Atlantic.

Have used UA far more than any of the others, and I prefer their service and product offering by far.

Most of the time AF from CDG, sometimes KL from AMS.

Living in ATL means it's usually DL (was L-1011 now 767 or 777)...although last Thanksgiving I went to ROme and deliberately went thru JFK and took Alitalia (777). Nice IFE and good food. Before DL flew int. from ATL I flew PA or AF (707 then 747) thru JFK, flying EA or DL (usually 727 then 757's) to get there. Occasionally took BCAL or Sabena (DC-10's) ATL-LGW/Luchthaven.

I have crossed the Atlantic with
SK, BA, KLM, NW, AF, LX, AA, AC and the most with BA.

I would rank them like this
1. SK, BA
2. AF
3. LX
4. AA
5. AC
6. NW
7. KLM

Best Regards

I average 1 pond hop a month YYZ to somehwere east....
Upto Jan 2003...AC (80%) and Luf (10%) and sometimes AF (10%)
For $6000+ dollar tickets AC was painful in quality, Luf not worth it and hearing those cool chimes at CDG and enjoyable times on AF were not worth the poor connections.

Jan 2003 on.....exclusively BA. Love the connections, Club World, World Traveller Plus - but most of all....you get what you pay for. Consistent good product.
there is economy class, business class, first class...then Concorde..pure class

Always been AA in the past, but I would love to fly BA "across the pond" but I'm such a miles junkie, I won't do it as long as the AA/BA restrictions are in place  Sad
I was thinking the next time I go to MAD, I may fly IB out of MIA on a 747, that could be cool, but I hear customs at MIA is not so cool.

AA/BA YES WAY!!  Smokin cool

I've only "crossed the pond" once in my lifetime, and that was last month. I got stuck on UAex for the domestic sectors (SYR-ORD vv.), and UA outbound to AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA; LH inbound to ORD. I will not hesitate to say that UA has without a doubt some of the friendliest crews in the sky. That cannot, however, be said for it's STAR counterpart. Pretty planes, but cold, distant service from what seemed to be 'robotic' FA's. That was for a group trip through a travel agent, so I couldn't really choose who I flew  Sad.
I would take CO/VS if I had the choice; that's because my family has a gigantic "thing" for CO. I love 'em, too. Keep up the good work!

Almost always EI, but this is as much because you can clear US customs in DUB so it saves you 45mins in JFK or ORD. Price is usually quite good too

I just once crossed the Pond 20 years ago with Aero Mexico, flying PAR-MAD-MIA-MEX. I like to cross the Pond again (or maybe the Pacific coming from India) with my family to visit USA, and surely I will use a US Airline to have a flying touch before with the big country I like to visit one day.

Cheers. Kilavoud.

For me it is clearly DL! I usually catch a LH-flight to AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA or AF to CDG and connect to DL. I flew Swissair and Sabena when they were still "alive" and flew as DL codeshare because the connections from DL), Germany">DUS via ZRH or BRU were great! My second choice would be LTU with nonstop service from DL), Germany">DUS or LH via AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA. I flew AA and UA in the past when they offered nonstop service from DL), Germany">DUS to ORD and flew PanAm from AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA to JFK.
Born to fly! It's more than a passion - it's a yearning!! At home in DUS(Dusseldorf)!
