What Is Your Favorite Part Of A Flight?

Mon Jun 14, 2004 12:57 pm

Today I realized the best part of a flight. I think it is so cool when you descend into overcast clouds and your just skimming along the top. It was spectacular tonight because we were "skimming along" the cloud tops for about 40 min during sunset. What is your favorite part?

Probibly landing since you don't know what to expect, and you never know what planes you might see on the ground.

Descent and approach is always fun. Takeoff and climb is a close second.

The abest part ever is when the a/c starts to accelerate and then till rotation. This is when you realize how stronge are the engines. The whole thinkg shaking... OMG!

I love it when the plane is forced to make an emergency landing due to nonfunctional toilets from SFO-CDG after it has been denied landing at CDG. Nothing quite like holding it from SFO-CDG and then back to NYC.

Go arounds are a lot of fun! But I think the best is on takeoff starting when the engines spool up, (especially on an MD-80)  Smile

My favorite part has to be takeoff, especially when there is an overcast sky that needs to be broken through. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you break through the cloud cover, particularly when and if the pilot holds the aircraft at altitude and the aircraft seems to 'skim' over the top of the clouds. And, of course, this can be most stunning on an early morning, post-sunrise flight!

Amazing.

Yeah, skimming the clouds is the best, on ascent or descent. Ascent's more fun I guess because you have the whole flight ahead of you still.
I also LOVE take off when the aircraft is heavy-you get this on fully loaded 744s before a long haul-takes forever to thunder down the entire length of the runway and you really get the sense of what it's like to have a fat arse. Inertial overload! My favs are the QF weekend flights from LAX to MEL and SIN-LHR. Always full to the brim and HEAVY!
Long Haul is the only way to go

1. Landing, touching down and thrust reverser
2. Approach
3. Turbulences
4. Takeoff roll
5. Rotating
6. Climbing trough the clouds

Take off because of the power surge by the engines, Rotation when you see the ground being left behind, descent when you feel so graceful seeing the city lights below you, and the G forces of touchdown and reverse thrust.

My favorite part is when your nearing the end of the taxi and the pilot comes on and says "flight attendant's prepare for departure", you hear him rev up the engines he turns and your off. Approach and landing is a close 2nd.

I have always loved the moment when the aircraft breaks through the clouds on a day flight. That clear sunlight coming streaming through the windows.

Especially when you have departed somewhere that is overcast or raining. It really reinforces the fact that you aren't just on a bus or train, but are flying above literally everything (including the weather)

For me it has to be landing. When the flaps and slats extend, you feel the gear doors open and the gear come out, and on touchdown then the airbrakes and thrust reverse are deployed. The moment when it is " all hanging out" is the biggest rush for me.

Takeoff and landing...the two most crucial phases of flight.....I love sitting on the wing to watch the flaps, slats, etc.

Hey, you never know what you can see from that little window.hey, when i was descending into ORD,i saw MDW-and i took a pic (ill post it later).I could even see some of Southwest's 737s parked at a terminal. There was like 5 or so.hey,i use hey to much...
