Favorite Fighter Aircraft

Wed Jun 16, 2004 2:51 pm

Name your top 3

Mine would be
F-14
F-16
F-117 (although it's not really a fighter, I'll call it one based on it's designator)
South Carolina - too small to be its own country, too big to be a mental asylum.

Don't you know that fighters are for wimps???  Laugh out loud

To answer to your post...I would have to say the F-22, Panavia Tornado, F-16 and the Eurofighter.
Regards
Twinjets...if one fails, work the other one twice as hard!!!

Showing my age but if anyone has ever seen an RAF English Electric Lightning take off and climb vertically becoming invisible in a matter of seconds while the insides of those on the ground vibrate unhealthily must love the aircraft. The Starfighter is magnificent as well. After that it becomes very difficult. The Mirage III is stunning but the Hawker Hunter must be the most graceful jet fighter ever.

The design was hopelessly dated even when I was on active duty but it was clean and graceful in flight, and it is still the champion of (jet) air combat with its record from Korea.

F-104 had the most beautiful lines, and wonderful sheet metal work.
F-4 looked like what it was - a weapon. It reminded me of the Thompson submachine gun, all purpose and no pretty.
P-51 has to be on anyone's list.
F-6F Hellcat, wings, seat, engine, guns. What else do you need?

Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

The Super F-18A Hornet is just amazing with regard to its cockpit and system advancements. Dont talk for the aerobatics done by the Blue Hornets. Big grin

Nice choice, Tristar. I do love the Jug, but I'm more partial to another World War II beauty...
