Would TWA Have Gone For The 777 Or A330/A340?

Sun Jun 27, 2004 10:57 am

If TWA was still around, do you think they would have ordered 777s or A330s/A340s?

I thought they had orders for A333s. The order was cancelled when AA bought TWA. And I have seen line drawings of a 777 in TWA's last colors. Regards.

I believe the A330 order was cancelled when TWA ordered the A318. The A330 order had been on the books for a long time, and TWA ordered the A318 at least in part to avoid a stiff cancellation penalty.
I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.

I personally think they would have gone for the 777. Although it would've looked cool with a 340 or 330.

I saw a TW TV commercial that had a computer generated 772 in it. At first I thought it was a 763, but I the flat tail-cone was a dead giveaway. Which seems rather ironic considering that TW had A330s on order.

TW placed an order for 333's early in the program intended to replace their L10/747 fleet. The 333 order was deferred and the L10/747 dwindled to nothing as TW slowly pulled out of many transat markets. The 333 order was no longer needed and TW "converted" it to an order for 50 318's (no doubt to save any deposits).

Of course, the 318 order made no sense as TW simultaneously ordered 50 717's. Their rather weak rationale was that the 318 & 717 would operate side by side with the 318 handling the slightly longer routes. Complete madness.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I guess its safe to say that we would never know. Since they cancelled their A330 orders and converted them to A318s and also they were a huge 717 operator....again....its pretty sketchy so we will never know.

Note to A.net management: Shouldnt this go into the polls/prefs forum??

They never make with the orders with B777 either and already orders with A330 with TW and after shutdown with TW back of December 2001.

I presonally think they would have waited with those 767's until the 7E7 came to life. The 777 would have been a close second, but I really think they would have been interested in the 7E7.
