I've flown into SYR
twice. In April 1986, I flew aboard an Empire F-28 in transitional Piedmont colors a month before they were absorbed into Piedmont. We'd flown PI
, and our final leg was EWR
. In June 1994, I flew aboard USAir (DC-9-30's both ways) SYR
. There were a lot fewer planes around that concourse the second time around.
If anyone's interested, I've got a passel of April 1985 photos of SYR
at the MyAviation.net section of Airliners.net. Type in SYR
or my last name (Kruggel) and they'll come up. I also have some of that same set here at Airliners.net.
There was thread here recently about hodgepodge airport terminals, and I wrote a long piece about SYR
. It's a neat old hodgepodge, but they ruined its charm during the 1992 expansion by painting everything light gray. The ugly 1980-era approach road canopy also destroys the view of the cool zigzag-roofed 1960-era main lobby building.
