Biggest Pet Peeves At The Airport

Fri Jul 23, 2004 7:15 pm

Mine has always been seeing the TSA come into work with a roller bag. I know, it sounds petty, but they have to be the only people, other than flight crews that come to work at the airport with a roller bag. What the hell do you have to bring to work with you, when you look at a CTX all day, that you have to bring a BK22 with you?

I'm sure someone else has something that bothers you, the constant "they let me carry it on last time", or "I'm never flying your airline again"

People with baggage carts that block you from passing.

Flying for 24 hours and then having to wait another hour to get your bag from the carousel.

Dramatic relatives seeing of their friends at airports.

People parking illegally and blocking the road.

I'm sure there's more  Big thumbs up

Interesting subject,
After a lot of thought, I can come up with one thing that bugs me, passengers (typically teenage males) who bring a basketball with them into the terminal, and are bouncing the ball. Come on people, can't you put down the ball long enough to get on a plane? The terminal is NOT a basketball court. I have also seen them kicking soccer ball's around, and riding skateboards. Its not a playground. Maybe its just LAS, but it seems like I see it everytime I go up there.

That's it for me  Smile

Worst I have seen is a US college trip where the guys where throwing a football in the waiting area of Dubai airport. They were throwing the ball at least 20 metres to each other and were getting some interesting stares from the locals. They are lucky they didn;t get kicked out or arrested. Lucky?? Maybe a shame  Acting devilish

Travellators that don't work ! They build the terminal 11teen miles long, install travellators, and they're permanently being repaired, so you have to walk those 11teen miles when you're running late already ! NGNGNGG

In Atlanta, I hate the fact that there is no good, "legal" way to pick up passengers from baggage claim without actually parking in the lot. You used to be able to drive up to the curb, wait a couple of minutes until the person comes out, load them in the car and leave. Now the cops won't let you stop at the curb unless you're dropping someone off, and even then the pax has barely gotten their stuff out of the trunk before some cop shoos you along.

It would be nice if there were a "short-short term" area designated for waiting cars.

I also hate rushing through the airport to get to the flight on time, and then, once loaded, finding out we're like 23rd in line for departure.

Dear 767Lover,

I agree with you but you can blame that one on Osama and his buddies.

My pet peeve:

Good topic.

For me its the folks who are standing under the directory sign (or basically any informational sign) and still ask the question where something is. Come on folks, lets use our first grade reading skills.

Another one is when people stop midstream walking down the concourse and you just about run them over. Its like a disabled car on the highway... move over to the shoulder.

Just two that come to mind.

The fact that people refuse to check their bags and are allowed to bring these huge suitcases on the plane, it is ridiculous! A passenger should be able to bring one carry on piece and it should be a carry type of bag.

NIKV69, you said it. I make the effort to take a bag that is within the limits and fits in the overhead. I have made an effort to buy a convertible roller/backpack that fits in any overhead but RJ/Prop, and NOT sideways. In other words, I just take my allotted space. I hate boarding late for some reason and finding that all the space is taken by wuffos with large hats and cakeboxes. What is wrong with these people? Learn to pack!

Screaming kids. Now, if the kid is 9 mths old, I can understand it. But if the kid is 5 and the parents excuse it's screaming, running and annoying by saying: "He's just a kid". Excuse me? When I was 5 I was old enough to understand the need to be quiet.

Bitchy pax: Yelling at the agent/FA will not get you better service. And no, the weather is not their fault. Neither is the mechanical problem. In fact, your ranting will probably increase your delay. Not to mention being embarassing to yourself. Sit down. Shut up.

Pax who don't say "hello" when I sit down next to them. I'm not asking to talk to you for the whole flight. I'm just being polite.

Having said all that, I also get annoyed at (usually older) pax who sigh and hiff and puff and glare at every little annoyance (little kids running, etc...). Calm down. There is nothing you can do about it and if you don't laugh it off soon that coronary is going to catch up with you sooner than you think.

When working at the airport...

Stupid questions like GRRTVC said.

I couldn't tell you how many times people would be standing in front of the sign looking right at it and asking where stuff is located.

Even worse at the airport. You are at the urinal and a guy is asking you questions while you are doing your business.

While at the airport...

Businessmen with briefcases getting all impatient, looking at their watches getting all irate and yelling at the ticket agents or other airline workers as if they own the airline themselves.

I am going to like this thread....I know some of these will be petty, but I travel a lot and have my own set of standards.

People that get off a plane and just off the jetway and stop walking...with 150 people behind them trying to get by for a connection.

People with screaming, not crying, but screaming kids in the first two or three rows behind First Class.

F.A.'s that put their roller bags in the overhead over the first two to four rows behind the First Class section. With most U S carriers, these rows are reserved for the elite pax that did not get the upgrades to first.

F.A.s that tell pax.."That's a roller have to check it" when they have one EXACTLY like it in the overhead over row 7A,B,and C.

F.A.'s that flat REFUSED to give you a can of soda when you asked for get the plastic glass only....This happen to me once and NW heard about it.

TSA people that do not say GOOD MORNING back after you say it first.

People who talk on cell phones real L O U D (this can happen anyplace, not just an airport).

Passengers who lie to the agent at the counter or gate. I heard one guy say he had to get on that plane because he had to be in court in three hours. What no one but me figured out was the day of this incident was the 4th of July.....Think about it if it did not register with you.

Drunks....on the plane or at the airport..I have no tolerance for them

People that let their kids do anything they want at the airport or on the plane.
I said A N Y T H I N G......We all have horror stories with this one don't we?

that's all for now

If two people agree on EVERYTHING, then one isn't necessary.

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who stand in line a the security checkpoint for 30 minutes, then once they get to the metal detector, take another 5 minutes to take all of their loose change, keys, wallets, watches, phones, etc. out of their pockets. Come on! You had 30 minutes to do that! Most airports have signs telling you to put all your pocket contents in your carry-on when going through security. The other posters are correct -- some people just can't read when they are at the airport!

- People who stand in line for 15 mins watching everyone go through a metal detector then try to walk through it without emptying their pockets first. Reminds me a Simpson's episode where Lisa is doing a science experiment with an electrified muffin; a rat learns not to eat it, Bart never does. These stupid people really irk me.

- People who, despite normally repeated requests over the PA system, try to board a flight and have lost/packed away deep in their hand-luggage/given to someone else their boarding pass and/or passport/ID. Come on people, they don't give you a BP at check-in as a souvenir...YOU'RE GOING TO NEED IT AGAIN, KEEP IT TO HAND.

- Idiots with huge carry-ons as has been noted above.

- Inconsiderate people who insist on blocking the exit from arrivals as they drop all their luggage and spend 30mins hugging relatives.

I'm sure there are more, but I'm off to calm down now  Smile

Good answers all, I thought of a few more.
-The business man talking on his phone when at the urinal. This could happen anywhere I guess, but I really don't think I want to talk to some one that much I'd need to have to hear the toilet flush.

-Women bringing a purse thats as big as a rollerbag and telling you it will fit under the seat.

-People's inability to actually read an arrivals screen without asking for help. It's not that hard.

That one jerk in SFO who caught me wearing "non-dress" shoes and didn't give me the first-class seat while I was non-reving a few years ago Big grin. Damn you! Oh well I waited another day and got a non-standard 747-400 to HNL and got in business upstairs!
