Create A Named Visual Approach At Your Airport

Sun Aug 08, 2004 1:26 am

A good number of members on these boards have heard of published, named visual approaches like LGA's "Expressway Visual" to runway 31, JFK's "Shore Parkway Visual" to runways 13R and 13L (also referred as the "Canarsie Approach"), and SEA's "Mall Visual" to runways 34R and 34L.

If you were given an opportunity to create such an approach to your airport, what would you name it, what landmarks would you use as visual aids, would you use any navigational aids (like NDBs, VORs, or LOCs), and what would be the general routing of the approach. Would your named visual approach be used as a noise abatement procedure and/or be used to manage traffic easier where two airports are close to each other?
