Long Haul Flights In Narrow Body Aircraft

Sat Sep 11, 2004 5:15 am

I was wondering whom of you has flown long haul (say minimum 8 hours) on narrow-body airplanes, and what you think about it. Would you prefer wide-bodies instead?

Define Narrow body.
I know NZ serves places like TPE, SIN, KIX, HKG... non stop with 763's, but that is not exactly narrow.

I think Levent refers to narrowbody as single-aisle aircrafts
My 2 cents: Wide bodies all the way!

Yep, I mean single-aisle planes like 737, 757, A320... and these include the luxury PrivatAir 737 flights from Germany to the US.
All my long-haul flights were on the 747-200, 747-400 and A340-300, but it seems more and more flights are operated by single-aisle a/c.

Last year from Madrid (MAD) to Male (MLE) in a A330 from Air Luxor (Leased from Novelair I think...he had a SE-*** registration)

After that flight I reconfirm to never fly again on a charter company.:D

Not really sure if this counts as a long haul because they were two separate flights, however I travelled a few times MIA-PTY-EZE on Copa 737's. Overall, I enjoyed it, however I prefer wide bodies...no particular reason, I just get impressed with huge aircrafts rather than smaller ones. I have to add that Copa offers a great service, with very friendly crew, to the point that once arrived at EZE, the crew and myself arranged to go out for a few drinks.  Big thumbs up

In the late 1970s I flew a Japan Airlines DC-8 from JFK to Tokyo, with a one hour fuel stop in ANC. Each flight leg was 7 hours, with a one hour stop in ANC. That's 15 hours total.
There wasn't a wide body on the route, so there weren't any options.

Cheers

My longest was LAS-MCO on an America West Airlines Boeing 757 for 5 hours. Never again will I fly a narrowbody jet on a flight 4 hours or more!

Hey Skysurfer, welcome on A.net!

I could be flying on an Iberia 757 from Madrid to Lagos, Nigeria around Christmas, to visit my parents. I believe it´s a 4.5 hour flight. That is if IB didn´t already phase out the 757s by then! Maybe I should use my IB FF-miles for an upgrade, huh?
