Best And Worst Airlines In Terms Of Punctuality

Wed Sep 29, 2004 3:00 am

Just in terms of punctuality, which airline do you rate the best and which one the worst.

My guess is old Swissair for the best, and .... Don't decide yet between some LatAm and some European ones for the worst.

Flights ivolving cities in Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia oftentimes operate delayed or cancelled services mainly due to weather-related reasons. With the Himalayas looming about, no surprise there.

The best - probably QF

The worst - GA. Garuda stands for Good And Reliable Under Dutch Authorities, but not anymore. It's one of the worst i've been on!

Worst, by far, for any flight I've had: Southwest.

Flown them 6 or 7 times for emergencies/last minute flights and have NEVER been on time. The avg delay on WN is b/w 30-45 mins...and only 1 delay into MDW had to do w/ weather. I avoid them like the plague if I can.

Best...well, surprisingly I would say the last couple times I've flown DL CMH-ATL (both outbound and inbound CMH) we've been an avg of 10-15 mins early. Also, my last flight on FL DAY-ATL we were 20 mins early and sat on the ramp while they got us a gate  Smile

Of the 20 trips or so I've flown CO I can only recall one delay off the top of my head
On the other hand, I have never had a late afternoon or evening WN flight depart on time

I have heard a few stories about bad punctuality on US carriers and AC, but I wouldn't know for sure as I have never travelled with them.
TG and GA always seem to always be late leaving AKL. They are usually late by about 1/2 an hour to an hour.
NZ and QF are pretty good on punctuality.

SWISS has one of the worst on time perfomances in Europe. I once read somewhere that TAP is currently the worst.

ATLhomeCMH -

I've been reading your posts through the weeks, and I'm always interested because Atlanta is one of my favorite cities, and the CMH-ATL route has seen me quite often, always on DL. I haven't flown as originating pax from ATL since 9/11. Other employees from work, who have had to fly to ATL on business, have told me numerous horror stories of security lines there, and of course many times the national news has felt it necessary to feature problems and long lines there.

As you go through there fairly often, could you provide me some info here about your experiences going through security at ATL? Length of lines, average wait times, best time of day to go through, (if there IS one), info such as this? I would really appreciate your perspective on this, and could use it in my flight selection should I have to go to ATL in the near future.

Thanks in advance for your response.

I fly CO at least 3-4 roundtrips per year, and I've never had a delay that has been their fault. At EWR, we usually depart the gate a few minutes early (a good move on their part), but we end up sitting on the tarmac, waiting to take off for at least thirty minutes. CO does the best they can with getting the plane pushed back, but there isn't anything they can do about the lineups for departure.
