Best/worst Seat On SQ 777/747

Wed Oct 13, 2004 1:10 am

I'm going to fly with my family on SQ from CPH to SIN on december 21st and forward to MEL on Christmas Eve. On both routes we will be flying on a 777 - first 200ER and then 300. We are coming back to SIN from PER on January 5th. The next day on SQ 744 to FRA. We will be altogether five persons. What seats would you recommend if we will have any chance to choose. What seats should we absolutely avoid - if possible! Yes - we do have economy class seats.

You will need to visit a site such as http://www.seatguru.com/ but they, unfortunately, do not include SQ in their database.

Perhaps some other a.net member might know an alternative site that includes SQ?

That much I can say, check out the SQ's website on their aircraft. For the 747-400s, go for the emergency exit seats because they offer the best legroom. As for the 777-200 ERs (9V-SV_), the bulkhead seats for the 2nd Economy cabin I think, offers the best legroom.

From experience in SQ's 744, seat row number 38 is perhaps the best, as there is the lavatory behind you, yet there's some space left for you to recline, and not get 'disturbed' by the passenger behind you. It is in the 1st compartment of the economy class. The 744 economy class is typically divided into 3 compartments, the first being row 31-38, 39-48, 49-66. Do not go for row 66, as this is the very end of the 744, and I have had motion sickness in that very last row. Also, there's not enough air circulating around that seat. So avoid row 60 and above!

As for the 772s, try to have seat row between 31 and 40, as this is quite the middle of the aircraft, therefore less movements when turning on the ground (as it is the pivot point). The 772 economy class are usually divided into 2 compartments, row 31-47, 48-59. Avoid the last compartment.

For the 773 on the leg to MEL, try to get seat row between 31 and 35, as this is the first compartment of the economy class. There aren't that many seats, and it is preferable for night flights in that compartment. The 773s are divided, 31-35, 36-48, 49-61. Avoid the last compartment!

This is based on my experience, I don't know what others would say to this, but I fly SQ all the time, so i know roughly what's good and what's not too good there. Hope it helps.

EDIT: Try to use SQ's Internet Check-In if possible. It allows you to choose your seat in the aircraft (subject to availability of empty seats)

Thanks all - especially StudenFlyer!

This was just what I was expecting. I knew that at this forum there are experts like you, StudentFlyer, who have experience in all kind of SQ planes and their differrent versions.

More commnets are of course welcome.

Seatplans on airliners web-sites don't allways give the right picture of the actual situation onboard.

Best regards,

Anytime  Smile

Also, if you're more concerned about legroom, then seat row 39 (the outer side, not the middle row) in the B744 is very good, because it is right behind the emergency exit door. But then again, if it is for an overnight flight, or even a day flight, it is not very comfortable, as many people will usually wait for the lavatory around that seat, usually after mealtime (as it offers quite an ample space for standing around).

In the 773, row number 36 offers the similar layout with row 39 in 744s.

Hope this helps

I can help on the 744 on SQ but not the 777..
Personally, dont go for row 35 or 36 as the windows are totally blocked out and you will see nothing. Those seats are just really for the people who want to sleep as they can rest on the blacked out window. Avoid the last row of every cabin as they do not fully recline. Thats row 38, 48 and 66. Altho you will have no one behind you, as i said, they do not fully recline.
You say you are travelling in a group of 5. If you let me know your dates of flying and your names, i will try and book the seats for you.

What i can do is put a note in your reservations for the requested seats and then i can actually confirm them approximatly 4 days before you are due to fly. I hope this is some help to you.

If your are travelling with children under 15 you wont be assigned seats at the emergency exits as these seats are given only to paxs who are capable of and willing to assist the cabin crew in an emergency. On the 747s seat 32H has lots of legroom as there is a storage compartment in front of 32JK but does not protrude out.But these seats are bassinet points...and families travelling with babies are given priority.Other than that...i dont really see any difference in seats..except that maybe the aft compartment would be more shaky in turbulent weather. On the 777s...like the 747s..emergency exits are only assigned to those paxs...and bulk head seats are given to families requiring bassinets. To me the front section of economy on the 777-300 may have only a few seats but i find it rather clautraphobic and cramped.Seat pitch is basically slightly better than the 747.Good luck on your allocation of seats...hope u have a comfy flight.

Unsuprisingly, the worst possible seat on the 777 is an aisle seat on the last row in economy. Only the centre row is used as lavatorys occupy the space to the left and right of the plane, which means there is no window in view of your seat plus you have the noise of the galley behind you (not so good on an overnight flight). You also have to endure the inevitable lavatory queue standing next to you. I've never been so grateful for IFE!
