Airlines Take-off Power

What commercial airliner has the best take off power. I say this meaning taking out onto the runway and that awsome feeling when the pilot applies max power. Next to Concorde which plane do you feel has the most power?

Most total overall power, or max power to weight ratio? For the former I'd suggest the 744, for the latter the little BAe146 - phenominal take off!

But those are from experiencing regular take-offs, rather than what the plane is actually capable of (as planes don't use max power for take-off). Perhaps a formal numerical answer would be better in the tech/ops forum.

The Boeing 777 has a phenomenal takeoff power itself. Even though it only has two turbofans, each of it's two engines--dependant upon the type of aircraft and it's respective engine type--can kick out between 90,000 and 120,000 pounds of thrust at TRT, if I'm not mistaken. I think the RR Trents on the 777s are the most powerful of the three types--GE, RR, P&W--so that's why I say the 777. Come to think of it, the combined thrust of the 777's two engines put out more power than that of the 747...again, IF I'm not mistaken.  Big grin

I agree with SnowJ. The best feeling for a takeoff is on a 777. Although I've tried the ones with RR Trent 884 and 892s, I'd be eager to try the new 773ERs. I'd say they have the best feeling after all. You feel that pull when inside a 777, whereas a 747 would feel much more heavier, yet it just doesn't have that mid-range take-off power as the 777s have.

Let's see the figures.
The most powerful 744, which uses the PW4062, has 62,000 lbs. of thrust each. x4 = 248,000 lbs.

The most powerful 777, which uses the GE90-115B, has 115,000 lbs. of thrust each. x2 = 230,000 lbs.

But, the MTOW for the 744 is around 830,000 lbs, as to the 773ER's 660,000 lbs. So this gives the 777 to have a more power-to-weight ratio compared with a 744.
