What's The Best Name Of An Airline?

Sun Oct 24, 2004 3:35 pm

So what name do you like the most? I have always liked the name of the former Legend Airlines.

I think Garuda Indonesia sounds very nice.

Although, in the middle of all those South American typicall "Aerosomething" or "Lineas Aereas Something", "Lan Chile" sounds incredibly cool for a state owned carrier

Yea, those Southa names are so not creative.

non-aero or Lineas Aereas airlines in Sotham:

-Avianca
-LAN
-VARIG
-TAM
-Mexicana
-Copa
-TACA

What a shame.....

BTW: Also add Emirates and DBA.

As my screen name suggests, I like "Aeroflot" the best. Translated from Russian: Air Fleet. Probably kind of obvious without the translation.

Definately Jetsgo - a clever play on words. The name and smiley face on the tail just make me smile. A close second - Hooter's Air.

"Gruesome Twosome" awards go to - Bmi Baby (sounds tacky), SN Brussels Airlines (boy did they have to thrash that one out at the meeting)

Honourable mentions go to - Qantas, Lan Chile, Aer Lingus - all sound very cool, and worthy of being an airline!

Outright Winner for today goes to - Cathay Pacific - I love seeing their 744s at LHR, seem 100% more exiting than any others! Great name

I go for the airlines with the names of their countries in the name.
Like NZ, SQ, SA)">AA, BA, AF, MH, BI, KE, JL, LX, TG, SA, CI...

You get the idea, seems more patriotic.

I agree with Alitalia as well.

I also like Iberia as a name for the Spanish national carrier. El Al ("wings of God") is pretty cool, too.

Some of the acronyms are nice too: both Varig and Sabena have (had) nice rings to them.

TAP Air Portugal - TAP stands for Portuguese Air Transports / Transportes Aereos Portugueses and was the original name of the airline. The tagline 'The airline of Portugal' and their old colour scheme were fantastic.

(man, I wish they restore this bird fast!!)

Later, when the 'new' colour scheme was introduces (in the 80's), the ideia was to rename the airline to Air Portugal, being that the current livery would be an interim livery until the public was adapted to the new name, thus maintaining the 'TAP'. Turns out the public was too much used to 'TAP' than 'Air Portugal', so they still maintain the name and the livery today  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

My #1 vote goes to Garuda (how beautiful for the national carrier having the name of a bird in the countries' mythology).
Others I really like(d): Viasa, Pan Am, Avianca, El Al. I thought of Cubana and Ecuatoriana too but then realized its just the adjective of the country's name so those were not too much creative.
