GAY Flight Attendants

Thu Oct 28, 2004 4:23 am

A while back - it seemed that every male flight attendant was gay. Has this changed or are things still pretty much the same

Reminds me of an old joke (not mine I hasten to add):

What do you call a straight flight attendant?
Female!

In answer to your question, there are plenty of straight male flight attendants. More so on LCCs it seems, but maybe that's just my perception (we're talking less "visibly gay" people here, I'm not the sort of person that would ask!).

Might have to do with service levels? Gay men tend to be more caring and people-loving, so I could imagine that full-service airlines prefer them instead of straight male f/a´s.

I don´t think so. Why should a male crew be gay? I don´t see this job as feminine. Probably some male F/A are gay, but its not a rule. Being a male crew doesn´t necesarry mean gay.
That´s just my opinion.

I couldn't care less if someone is gay/straight/bisexual/don't know as long as they are competent at their job and are courteous as well.

I have no idea and couldn't care less. Show up for work, be professional, do your job. Rest is bull****. Never met a pax choosing an airline based on perceived orientation.

Final thought, who cares?

Obviously, we do not know for certain, even if we asked every flight attendant in the world if they were gay/straight/bisexual, some would not answer honestly. Do you want gay flight attendants to wear rainbow badges to demonstrate their sexual preferences, in the same way that they wear flag badges for the languages they speak? It is simply irrelevant if they are good at their job.

My theory is that today more people are willing to accept gay people in society, and there are probably as many gay flight attendants (if not more) as before but they are nowadays not as noticeable.

If a male flight attendant is straight, he will mention a wife or girlfriend in the first thirty seconds of meeting him.

Never once known this not to be so.

If a gay is a *closet* gay, he will also mention a girlfriend within 10 seconds of meeting him. I know a few who were like that when I first met them. Over denial you see. Things aren't quite that simple!

Of course it doesn't matter, but a question was asked, which we've attempted to answer. The question was not about whether it matters if a FA is gay!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy More women for the rest of us, assuming they're not gay as well, in which case can we please have the video.  Wink/being sarcastic

Why is this even a thread! This is total sterotyping FAs, and it's just plain retarted! Why don't we start a forum: lawers that are gay on A.Net! It's just as retarted!

I'm suggesting this thread for deletion- for both inappropritness- AND just plain retarted ness!

Uhh, Airgeek12 when you call someone "retarted" (three times) you might first see to it that you know how to spell retarded. Think credibility.

slamclick is absolutely right when it comes to straight male flight attendants. Although I think it's actually more like the first 10 seconds, rather than 30. There is, of course, a reiteration of their sexuality within 30 seconds, for those that didn't catch it the first time. And if you still haven't caught on, there will be hourly reminders, and the obligatory ogling of all the "hot chicks" during the boarding process.

I'm curious, why is this curious. It seems to come up often. (that's a good one eh?)

I'm an Air Traffic Controller. What stereotypical sexual prefs. are assumed about Controllers?

Pilots? Rampers? CEOs? What about those spotters you see hanging around the airports, sometimes off in fields, you know, where animals are. Huumm. Bet their a strange group.

I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

Lol. Spotters and controllers don't have wives or girlfriends, they're too nerdy for that! How's that for an unfounded stereotype!

I did go to BRS once just to see what is was like "spotting", well more "photting" really. Lots of men waiting around in parked cars - I made sure I didn't use my headlights/internal light in case they were doggers instead of spotters!

I remember when I flew on TWA by myself (when I was like 12 years old).. A male FA stared at me BIG TIME.... I never forget that. Years, years later I figured out that he was gay and had crush on me.

I would like to meet him and ask if he remembers me, LOL

You can tell when a FA is gay -- if he stares at you WAYYYYY too much.

KL is full of gay flight attendants and they are pretty effective. You may note that they tend to fly more on some gay-routes such as GRU, EZE, MIA, BCN, etc...

But do you think that gay flight attendants are better than women?

As a former flight attendant, and gay one at that, you realize that straight guys are finally catching onto what we caught onto so long ago...meet lots of people, different place every night, and it's exciting.....it's not a secert anymore! Darn straight men...it only took them 15 years to figure out that it's a fun job. =) I know at Midway there were a number of straight F/A's....which was fine by me because I didn't want to have to fight over the hottie in 8A!

Md11lover:

Hi!

Well, I mentioned the gay routes I have experience, and also recommend!

 Smile

But you're right! I forgot SFO and GIG...two of the top destinations...of course, AMS is also part of the rainbow route...and how is Geneva doing? I've been there a couple of times and also approved.  Big grin Any other suggestion?

Btw, I see you like MD11s, and apparenly LX's MD11s are all gone to Varig, right?

Take care,

I know their are a lot of gay male F/A's. I kinda wonder why a lot of straight males arent interested in a F/A career? You get to fly for free, fly all the time, and work with females!

People tend to blow this topic out of proportion, It doesn't make any difference if the Flight Attendant has a different sexual preference than the passenger as long as they provide a courteous and helpful product onboard in a good manner. Be this person a Man or woman, Gay or Straight.

Just my 2 cents really...

.... and no, I have a girlfriend.  Smile

I completely agree with you. Just because someone has an attraction to the same sex should affect the way you fly.

I do not think they are all gay. Who really cares though. I am certain there is a fair distribution of gay guys in the industry, just the same as in many of the other service or hospitality businesses. I know that I have been helped or served by gay guys; I am OK with it, as long as the service provided professional and adequate.

It should not be an issue!

I dont mind gay flight attendants. As long as they are not soooooooo feminine that they should be wearing asbestos uniforms to prevent bursting into flames in flight!!!
