747 Upper Deck Economy

Fri Oct 29, 2004 5:26 am

What operators of the 747 have economy class seating on the upper deck? The only one I can think of is Air Pacific.

2 of JAL's 7 744 configurations include upper deck economy cabins.

I know in the old days most airlines had economy on the upperdeck, but I think know it's either Business, First class (usually in nose cone- except for on Lufthansa and some others), or like on VA, preimium economy.

I have also seen upper deck economy on the airlines Air Canada, and Annet Australia, although I'm not sure if they still offer that service.

All SAA's 744s are economy upper deck and it's great, the seat pitch is 3" more than main deck economy.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

The Ansett 744, I noticed was ex-SQ (from the -412 derivative). But did SQ ever have economy in the upper-deck? Or is it a re-configured upper deck? But for an economy, it looks quite spacious.

Also, how cramped does the Short upper-decks look! I wonder how it feels for long-haul trips!

Regards,
AK

The short upper deck is the best - it feels like flying a private jet, it's very cool. Even better when its in Biz or First class, then it really does feel like a bizjet.

On Feb. 1988, I flew BA LHR-ORD on Upper Deck Economy. I was so surprised, and really enjoyed the ride!!! I think BA don't do that anymore.
