Which Airline Was First With A Widebody Into LGA?

Thu Nov 04, 2004 2:12 pm

I'm assuming the year was 1971 and the aircraft was obviously the DC-10...who was first? AA, DL, NA or UA?

My guess would be Eastern in 1972 with the L-1011.

WRONG about EA and the L1011. The DC-10 beat the L10 into revenue service due to production delays, so the DC-10 WAS actually the first widebody to operate from LGA in 1971. I just can't remember which airline it was...

I'm leaning towards agreeing with John above. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this, but I believe one of the tech specs that AA requested when they were designing the DC-10 was the ability to fly it from LGA-ORD. AA might have been the first to operate the DC-10 in there??

It was an AA DC-10. It was quite a big deal at LGA when the first one landed.

I thought so, Bob. Do you remember the date?
